This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
  2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
  3. Tap or click View your update history.

View failed update error code.

Please post here with your error code, so that the Community can try to help guide you appropriately.

No not solved. In Settings under Update and Security in the Windows Update section under Update Status it says the following.

    Updates are available

    2017-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4054517)

    Status: Awaiting restart

Yet when I click Start button at left of Task Bar and go to Windows 10 Update Assistant it says Thank you for updating to the latest version of Windows 10.

The computer still automatically restarts to be able to update and says "We couldn't complete updates, undoing changes. Don't turn off the computer." And I have to log in again.

In the Update History is show a couple failed updates. There were numbers after the statement that the update failed I'm assuming those could be an error code. The last successful update was 12/17/17, but there was a failed update in November.

Cumulative update for windows version 1709 for amd64-based systems - failed to install 11/14/17 - 0x80240034

I'm not sure if amd in update notice refers to the processor, but I have an Intel i7 processor.

There was a successful update for window version 1709 for x64 systems on 11/14/17

Windows update for windows version 1709 for x64-based systems - failed to install 12/17/17 - 0x800f0922

If anyone knows why the updates failed, please let me know.
