There is no error code. Just a message, "Failed to install on 10/20/2015" I have tried to install just one update. No change. I've cleared the Download files in case there was a corrupt download (SoftwareDistribution/Downloads) I tried DISM\ online
scanhealth which said things could be restored and restorehealth which failed.

you might need to change or restart the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).

FWIW in W10 I have noticed that there is now a BITS troubleshooter. Apparently that does not exist on W8.1. However, previously some related repairs have been done by the Windows Update Troubleshooter (aka WUT). So, try that. You shouldn't need to use the download. Just try the built-in one.
Good luck

Please respond as soon as possible. My Acer is running exceptionally slow, and I'm hoping this is the issue that will fix that. I need to know how to get the updates!
