If you had that you might know which specific package you needed to remove (e.g. to get rid of the "corruption") and then save yourself having to redownload the whole thing, possibly even just update it from another already updated image by using the /source: and /limitaccess operands and thus avoid having to do any additional download at all?

I tried it and it didn't work for me.

The order of installing the updates is different from the instructions that came with the standalone installer for KB2919355 which has KB2919355 installed first followed by the other five updates in the package (in order, KB2932046, KB2959977, KB2937592, KB2938439 and KB2934018). Each of these updates calls for a restart - the instructions are silent on whether one should do a reboot after each fix install or wait until the very end. The referenced link also mentions uninstalling VPNs. Ironically, it appears that my laptop successfully installed KB2919355 while I was travelling and had an OpenVPN tunnel running to around 'certain firewall issues'. Sadly, it seems that there are many variants of the KB2919355 issue and the root cause(s) are still not clear.
