Unfortunately the KB article which documents these codes has still not been updated to reflect this information.   OTOH this looks to me like a "grasping at straws" grab bag reason code (better than "something's wrong" but not much), so as always I would be using ProcMon to try to find out what is really going on.

I haven't touched the 170MB re-install of the dreaded -5719 yet, I have no idea what that's going to end up doing. Just when you thought you'd dodged the bullet the first time, Microsoft comes and takes a second swing...

Just tried it again, "We couldn't complete the update, etc".  Pretty much what I was expecting at this point.  Microsoft should just replace Windows Update with a short script that displays this every time, it'd save having to download 170MB of junk just to get the same result.

After having tried to update my windows and experiencing all the problems detailed by other contributors I did a manual install and following the instructions on the message I found that the update that failed is KB2975719.

This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
3. Tap or click View your update history.
