I wouldn't waste my time and money at this point; KB2919355 is not installable on some computers (yours and mine).  I have wasted hundreds of dollars downloading this file, always fails, sat on the phone with MS tech doing DISM and SFC, and uninstalling software.  Never gets installed.  So, I've done what you did, turned off auto-update, depending on Malwarebytes and Spybot to keep me safe, and maybe turn auto-updates back on next year.  Hopefully, MS will solve this problem by January 1, 2015 (thats when I turn auto-updates back on).  Good luck!

I received this error while updating (or trying) this evening.  I was afraid it would never boot to the sign in screen, but it did.  Update history shows several updates installed today, but "Security Update for IE 11 for Windows 8.1 for x64 based systems (KB2961851) without KB2919355" failed.  What do I do?!I am currently using FireFox and have changed my update preferences to non-automatic.

Has anyone had success downloading Win8.1 from the Microsoft site using their original OEM product key and then using the ISO to refresh their Win8.1 system?  I am bumping into my monthly Internet traffic cap but a new billing month starts shortly.

After using dism to remove the 6 updates in the KB2919355 standalone installer, I went through most of Marek Kusmierski's script with the exception of doing the dism /resetbase (which appears to 'commit' all updates and prevent them from being backed out). The dism /scanhealth check identified one issue with the hashes of a Canon print driver - this is a very common issue which I also see on a laptop that successfully installed KB2919355.  I also skipped the 'cleanmgr' step since I believe the same function is included in the regular Disk Cleanup procedure I follow prior to doing image backups.  The Windows Update Troubleshooter still complained about a DataStore issue which I had hoped was due to issues with c:\windows\softwaredistribution (deleted as per Marek's script.  My antivirus application was disabled throughout the process.  I also left Windows Update disabled and used the standalone installer.

The KB2919355 msu installed without any error messages.  However the subsequent reboot showed the same restart at 8-10% into applying the update followed by a rollback of the update.  I even tried deferring the reboot until all 6 of the fixes in the KB2919355 standalone installer had been installed - same problem at reboot.

What is very odd is that the WindowsUpdate.log is showing no fatal errors.  There are warnings but nothing that raises a red flag.  At first reading, the WindowsUpdate.log entries at the time of the reboot provide no clue as to why the fixes were rolled back.  I have subsequently done a dism /restorehealth that appears to have resolved the Canon driver issue and will try yet another install when I can free up some time.  I may even turn over the laptop to Microsoft to see if they can make any headway.  If not, I will start restoring the system partition from previous backups in the hope that it was something in the last few months that is blocking the install.

Before I let Msoft loose applying this update I took a full Acronis backup. (Call me a pessimist but 800meg updates are never good news) Is there any point restoring this and trying again. I.E has anything changed in KB2919355 that means it now works or is it still gathering more and more problems?
