I tried to install 8.1, and after downloading and appearing to install, my PC hang for about 2 hours.  I reboooted and recieved a message that 8.1 could not be installed, and reverting to 8.0.  Error message 0xC1900101-0x40019

This morning I again tried to install from the Store, and immediately got a message This app was not installed.  Error message 0x80070652

Any idea as to how to install 8.1?

Chuck

Buddy do 1 thing delete the previously downloaded 8.1 setup u'll find it in c-drive as a hidden file.

then try on ur store again and on the properties check whether it is showing that ur windows key is activated or not.......

I had the same problems and error codes, my machine is a HP DV7-4040ed.

From 8.0 Pro I had to completely remove the AMD Radeon Mobility HD5000 series drivers (1.2) first before upgrading to 8.1 through the Store. Afterwards, all went ok.

Be sure you DISABLE automatic driver updates before/when installing 8.1 from the Store. Also DO  NOT install the new AMD driver (1.3) that shows up in Windows update because it will result in a  running computer with a non-powered black screen without any option to restore/boot in safe mode !!

Which drivers did you install after the update. I also have the 4040ed with RD HD5000.

NO AMD drivers, my laptop is currently running just the Intel HD Graphics (8.15.10.2900), it is running very smoothly and fast, no annoying fanblowing anymore ar all, machine doesn't get hot at all anymore !

Even with an extra VGA screen, which I do all the time, it is running perfectly and silent.

I loaded the newest Radeon Driver and tried again. The upgrade procedure to Windows 8.1 was very long with many reboots. It looked like a neverending loop, always the same screen, but after 4 or 5 repetitions it came to a successful end.

However, it could be the AMD Radeon driver, but maybe Microsoft did some improvements since my former try and that's why it worked.

I can only say: Try it again, but plan enough time. Maybe you need to run the upgrade 2 or 3 times with updating drivers. This will take hours.
