8.1 install error 0xC1900101-0x40019 and 0x80070652

well that's super.  Just nine steps that 3/4 the computing world wont be able to accomplish....Awesome upgrade MS...        

I agree this is a widespread train wreck. I've spent 3+ hours first updating a brand new high-end laptop to even SEE 8.1 in the Store, then waiting for the massive 3.6 GB 8.1 download, then watching excruciatingly slow progress bar after slow progress bar during the update, only to have it crash during the "final setup" and wait even longer while it forced me to revert back to 8.0 without presenting any other options. It's been a hugely frustrating waste of time.

This is also a massive waste of internet bandwidth forcing people to start over from the beginning time and time again (as many here have reported doing). Why not offer to save the bloated 3.6 GB download and offer steps to run the update again? Why not offer 8.1 someplace obvious as a downloadable file--especially for those with multiple PC's to update? And why isn't it available through Windows Update the way SP1 for Windows 7 was? Microsoft has dumbed everything down to the point of absurdity with Win 8 which only creates more frustration when something goes wrong.

This is a horrifically bad customer experience. Windows 8 has been hugely unpopular and 8.1 was supposed to be Microsoft's chance to gain some customer loyalty back. This horrible update experience  certainly isn't the way to do it.

I'm done with Windows 8 and any new Microsoft anything. They've completely lost their way. I just ordered a Chromebook, I'll stick with Win7 on my older PCs, and Android works great on all my mobile devices. This new laptop, like many Win 8 PCs I'm told, is going back for a refund.

The Startpage on Win 8 is much better then the old startmenu and Win 8.1 brings now also most of the other links back with a right click on the windows icon (Where the startbutton was)

The only missing link is to recently opened files. But this one can be added easily to your desktop if you know where windows stores this information:

"C:\Users\Pius1270\Recent"

I have two PCS. Both AMDs, but one newer then the other.

On my new one, AMD 8-core FX8120, 64-Bit, Asus board, the update run without any problem.

On my old one, AMD 4-core X4-965, 32-Bit, Gigabyte board, I had the same issue as all the others on this page.

Also on the X4-965 the compatibility check was ok, but still no success.

The difference between these machines is not big, both AMD based systems, the FX one just more uptodate. I could imagine that there is an issue with the Bios, becaue Win 8.1 expects some UEFI-Bios, and the older board might not be ready for that.

Or maybe because of the 32-bit, but I would expect that Microsofts would not install on 32-bit if not possible.

And I also selected a Swiss German keyboard after first power on in Win 8.1. But this keyboard selection was already in the filesafe system, it means directly after boot the PC crashed with blue screen (I saw the typically symbol :( that is used by Win 8 in Bluescreen) and only after it went into the failsafe environment where I could go back to my old installation. Was actually not so easy to find the right option the bring the former Windows back.

This error code was returned after my system password failed to be accepted. My system has german keyboard layout but MS uses during the update american keyboard layout without any indication of this fact. The texts ms presented were all in german. On the next screen there was an alteration of the keyboard layout offered but not for the initial login. I consider this to be a major mistake. After entering the password with the american keyboard layout the installation was completed.

I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite CA-55 and did not download the Toshiba Desktop Assistant so that I could use the upgrades available in the Toshiba Desktop Assistant prior to downloading Win 8.1. When I added these Toshiba upgrades and then downloaded Windows 8.1 everything worked out fine Thanks anyway.

I would advise anyone having trouble downloading Win 8.1 to go to their computer manufacturer's site and get the latest drivers and updates installed before attempting to download Win 8.1. The manufacturer should have information and/or driver downloads available regarding the installation of Win 8.1. Good luck!
