8.1 install error 0xC1900101-0x40019 and 0x80070652

For all these wasted man-hours, microsoft must be awarded the "World's largest open source Employer".

Here is the fix for a HP Pavilion dm4 1041tx  with a AMD Radeon HD 5000 series graphics card.

It is the graphics card driver issues which was stopping the upgrade process midway.

Everything including compatibility test passed and went through till restart and than screen blacked out.

1. Uninstall the graphics card from the device manager and don't restart the system till the upgrade process restarts it, else windows will again re-install it.
2. Start the upgrade and start praying.
3. After the installation if you see the Microsoft driver for the graphics card you can update it from the device manager, will work fine and will automatically update to the latest AMD driver. No issues after the installation.

Mission accomplished after 6 installation and 3 downloads, got the start button which points to the windows 8 home page.

Close Windows Upgrade Assistant then try again.

I faced the same problem as you when trying to install Windows 8.1 and I finally managed to install it successfully.

This is how I sorted out this issue :

• My PC is an HP ENVY m6 running Windows 8
• When trying to install Windows 8.1, installation stopped half way, error code 0x80070652
• I read your comments and I saw that I was not the only one to face this issue, so I gave up, waiting for Microsoft to fix the problem
• Then, 2 days later, a pop up message told me that the dowload of Windows 8.1 was completed and that the PC needed to restart in order to install the new OS. The installation was successful.
• Windows Update was turned off, so the successful installation is not due to an update
• My antivirus (Norton Internet Security) was on and it had just finished the weekly checking (cookies were deleted).

Hope this can help and give clues to understand the problem.

Turns out this issue was easily resolved for me. I had a couple of updates available and after applying them, I attempted another upgrade to 8.1 and it was successful.

Another thing which might have contributed, although I'm not at all sure; I set power options to maximum performance and enabled 100% brightness on both sliders. This due to a weird issue with the Bootcamp drivers where the lowest display brightness setting actually means 0% light - completely off.

Looniebin theory and probably doesn't apply at all to 99% of the people in here, but this is the complete rundown of what I did before the upgrade to 8.1 was successful on my MBP late 2012.
