I tried to install 8.1, and after downloading and appearing to install, my PC hang for about 2 hours. I reboooted and recieved a message that 8.1 could not be installed, and reverting to 8.0. Error message 0xC1900101-0x40019
This morning I again tried to install from the Store, and immediately got a message This app was not installed. Error message 0x80070652
Any idea as to how to install 8.1?

hola back again. i have a good and sad tale to share. i was finally able to install, win 8.1.
the key, clear the store cache
worked easily, happy. worked fine, did nto notice really much difference, and the start icon, what a joke, it is not the start of old, what a silly thing MS to do after so many desired a start icon.
BUT, i then installed avast security and classis start menu
SAD, not sure which did the damage BUT.
my computer went into an endless non starting loop, would never ever start again, so i did a revert to yes, VISTA. wow lost every thing, but the computer is a spare, for non-essential issues. fortunately i had my install code for win 8.
this time all went super smoothly, a virgin computer essentially.
i will now try to install win 8.1.
STORE CACHE is the key.. probably along with all of the other hoops MS makes us jump through, uninstall, updates, etc etc.
Most it seems on this forum are educated and computer savvy imagine the poor folks who do not know what is up.. they must be suffering so profoundly.

After more than 30 tries I HAVE SOLVED my problem
What I did and didn’t work:
Clear the Store cache
Update the Device Drivers on the Computer.
Perform a Clean Boot and find out which application/service is causing this issue.
Uninstall any program that maybe is not compatible with windows 8.1
After doing all this my error code change from 0x80070652 to 0x00000005
¿what have finally worked? I have an external hard disk connected to my PC, so I disconnected. After this the installation worked just fine.
DISCONECT ANY USB OR EXTERNAL DEVICE CONNECTED TO YOUR PC before the installation of Windows 8.1. This worked for me, I hope it can help someone to solve his problem
Same Story here...did the exact things...but what realy works was:
Clear the Store cache
Update the Device Drivers on the Computer.
Perform in cmd window as a administrator: Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
and
above all: Disconected all USB and External Drives!!
Updated without any problem and 8.1 working brilliantly, despite Microsoft but thanks to this and all other fora I have read!!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My installation froze twice and on the third attempt I disconnected my USB Hub and unplugged the network cable and the it worked!
My advise:
Try:
5 Open your PC
This worked for me.
