Chrome and Firefox browsers not compatible with Windows 8.1 update

I have just installed the new windows 8.1 update today (18th October) and found that both chrome and firefox do not work. (I had the latest versions installed which worked fine with windows 8.) I've even tried installing chrome 4.1 beta and the "unstable" chrome 5... I've made sure that they (chrome and firefox) are 'allowed' through the firewall, but still can't get them to work. Both web browsers open and look like they're working, but when I try to open a website chrome says it can't connect to the internet and firefox just remains on the start page. I know my internet works fine as internet explorer works and so does the app store. Any help on this would be appreciated! Thank you

There's a solution by ianself on mozilla's support forum and it worked for me! It fixed both my chrome and firefox browsers.

  1. Type "cmd.exe" into Search and then right-click on Command Prompt****to select 'Run as administrator'
  2. Type "netsh winsock reset" into Command Prompt, and then press Enter
  3. Restart PC

I think firefox and chrome right now is not compatible and I think that you should make sure that your microsoft is up to date and in the optional update of microsoft has in portant update for 8.1 that should be updated which might fix the problem but you have to keep checking for changes.

Make sure windows 8.1 is up dated and you can do the optional update too which they have two inportant update for windows.  The go to internet options incontrol panel or explorerandreset setit completely in theadvance section.  Should be fine.  Also go on internet and go toccleaner.comand download program and click next in all sections when installing on the popups then it will install.  Just follow directions and get to know what it does.  I think that will help you and your computer too to work better.

I used the program for years and it works great.  Then without doing anything the first time run cleaner twice or until there is nothing on the right side of program.  Oh cleaner is on the left side of page,  now run registry cleaner and do that twice too.

You'll find that your computer will work alot better.

when installing from page on internet look at the bottom after clicking download on the left click the free and click download again and it will install.  In internet explorer lots of times theres problem because of addons like tool bars.  best to not have toolbars on internet explorer only roboform works with it which is a password program which helps for signing in and protecting you with websites so you don't have to fill your places you go to to log in.

To fix tool bars goto internet options andclick on programsand click on manage addons.  when in the window click on tool bar  to get rid of and at the bottom you candelete it or disable it.

    Hope that helped!

Open internet options in control panel and go to advance and click on reset internet at bottom and aply and ok.  Then you'll have to set your home page which you can do soon as you open internet options again you should already be on the page and highlighted so just type what your home page is, don't have to put the www/.  Hope this fixed it.
