How do I get to my Portfolio in the new MSN Money format?

The demise of Portfolio Manager (or why Microsoft won't bring it back)

• MS's Philosophical shift from mouse to tablet/touchscreen user interface

Yeah, that's about it.

• We observed this shift from W7 to W8 (force the users away from the start menu) to an interface model that favors touch over mouse.
• Portfolio Manager is "mouse-centric".  It relies upon Silverlight, and Silverlight isn't compatible with the new "touch" paradigm. (On W8, apps that use Silverlight must revert back to the "old" desktop)
• Therefore, to eliminate Silverlight, Microsoft must retire PM.
• Note that PM (Silverlight) uses a smaller font, smaller row height.  You can pack more information onto a screen (which I really like) but it is harder to "touch".  The new Watchlist has bigger fonts/rows meaning you probably can't view all of your holdings at the same time (not good!)

Now, as to a replacement:

• They create a new "watchlist", but instead of "innovating", or just duplicating PM capabilities, they copy something else.  (Compare with Google's watch list... same information, similar layout, similar column headings, etc.):

-- G = [Overview | Fundamentals | Performance | Transactions]

-- M = [Summary | Fundamentals | Portfolio Holdings | Transactions]

• They can't address additional PM features that we desire/require because they are having too much trouble just making the basic functionality work.

Unfortunately this drives previously loyal MS customers away.

• Much of the discussion in this forum is NOT on how to get MS Watchlists to work, but what alternatives are available and how do we use them.
• Microsoft should be very concerned about this, but completely dropping PM before watchlist is mature indicates that they aren't.

Summary: We have two choices

1.  Keep working with MS and hope that they eventually implement the PM features in Watchlist.
2.  Use a service from another vendor.

The above is just my opinion/supposition as I have no inside knowledge.

Nicely written explanation of what happened to the watch-lists I had been using for years.  Well MS has lost me as a user.  I was able to put together a nice watch list on my brokerage account site.   JR

Has anyone considered that Microsoft is accomplishing what it has tried to do for years - get rid of the MS Money Portfolio so it will no longer have to provide support.

It has accomplished its aim as far as I'm concerned -- when the Classic Portfolio disappears, I will too as far as MSN Money is concerned.  I'll change my IE home page which won't matter much since I'll only use Internet Explorer when I need to because a function works better on IE than on another browser such as Chrome.  And I'll change my default browser so I won't be seeing IE unless I need to.

I agree they didnt want to maintain this every version has lost functionality.

What good is it without current news. Nmumbers don't tell the whole story.
