10/8/2013 Windows Update has Jacked my PC

On 10/9/2013...yesterday...I installed the large Windows Update for October.   During the reboot phase, my computer Blue Screened.  First time that has ever happened to me in 20 years with a Windows Update.  So I had to force shutdown and start the pc.   Booted up again normally..blue screen.  Tried again in Safe Mode and it appeared to finish finally.

So that is an issue of itself.  However, the Windows Update appears to have caused me some serious problems this past day.   My computer constantly freezes after some duration of usage, no matter what I'm doing.   (What I mean by "freeze" is "crash", but not BSOD...just can't do anything, even at-tab or alt-cntl-delete)  PC crashed/froze 4-5 times after the update and now.

This is the first major issue I've ever had with a WU and I've no clue what to do.  I did some Googling and there does appear to a lot of people having problems with this update and some mention of KB...2330, although I've no clue if that specific update is my problem or not.

Help would be appreciated.

(On a sidenote, I find this whole "community support" tool to not be very user-friendly at all and cumbersome.  For one , the sort feature just flat does not work)

    Thank you for the detailed description of your fix.

    I checked my environment variable settings for the TEMP directories for both my Windows 7 laptop and Vista laptop and they both match, all pointing to physical hard drive locations.  I have not attempted to install the 202 or other Windows October patches on my Vista machine since they blue screened my Windows 7 laptop.  I deleted the files in my TEMP directory which is always a good idea but I am still not comfortable with re-installing the October patches.

    I will attempt to get the tech support Manager at Microsoft to give me a call and continue the investigation.

    May I hijack this?.....I also am having update problems with the following updates

    KB2760411, 2596825, 2597973, 2767849

    These same 4 updates keep reinstalling every time I power down, then when I power back up...it starts al over again. update file says the update failed.

    I get error codes; 80070005, 8007006E

    I searched for .dmp files and found none

    Any Ideas?

    Those are office updates, totally different issue.  You won't fine a dump file at all.

    I would do a repair install of Office 2007.

    My computer is an Acer Aspire model 1610 bought in 2007. It is running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. It appears to have experienced the same problems since attempting manually on October 15 to install the updates that downloaded automatically on October 8. My symptoms include: inability to get beyond loading the desktop in regular mode. It won't run programs in regular mode. It will open in safe mode but I can't get all my work done in safe mode. I understand from this thread that there are two possible solutions so far. One is to uninstall the offending October 8 updates. I tried that but when I clicked on the updates, it did not offer uninstall as an option. Anyone have other suggestions on how to uninstall those updates? The other solution is to point the temp directory in the right direction. I have no idea what that means. Can anyone offer advice on how to do that? My computer is losing functionality. For example, now I can no longer access Windows Updates. I hope Microsoft comes up with a solution before my computer turns into stone. Thanks

    There won't be any automatic fix for this.  When you say you clicked on the updates, what screen were you in exactly?  As the updates should be uninstallable.
