10/8/2013 Windows Update has Jacked my PC

On 10/9/2013...yesterday...I installed the large Windows Update for October. During the reboot phase, my computer Blue Screened. First time that has ever happened to me in 20 years with a Windows Update. So I had to force shutdown and start the pc. Booted up again normally..blue screen. Tried again in Safe Mode and it appeared to finish finally.

So that is an issue of itself. However, the Windows Update appears to have caused me some serious problems this past day. My computer constantly freezes after some duration of usage, no matter what I'm doing. (What I mean by "freeze" is "crash", but not BSOD...just can't do anything, even at-tab or alt-cntl-delete) PC crashed/froze 4-5 times after the update and now.

This is the first major issue I've ever had with a WU and I've no clue what to do. I did some Googling and there does appear to a lot of people having problems with this update and some mention of KB...2330, although I've no clue if that specific update is my problem or not.

Help would be appreciated.

(On a sidenote, I find this whole "community support" tool to not be very user-friendly at all and cumbersome. For one , the sort feature just flat does not work)

Microsoft has now twice downloaded the October updates into my HP dv7-1183d running win7 pro (upgraded from VISTA when i bought it. Both times the downloads completely disrupted my computer, starting up every program as if it was a new computer. Lost email from yesterday (no email saved). Wants me to set up default programs and all the things a new computer would ask for every program. It even asked me to wait while it "set up my desktop".

Last week I used a restore point prior to the downloads and restored my computer in safe mode to the same condition it was in before the uploads. Then I unchecked the whole list of 10 or 15 updates and this morning I find that yesterday while my computer was not being used, the whole list was downloaded again and I now have a "brand new computer again". I would not mind if this was a new computer but sadly it is not. I will eliminate the updates by restoring in safe mode once again and plead with microsoft to get their act together.

there are a lot of similar problems related to Oct windows update.

mine were on vista 32bit and you can see my discussion under the 1 of 25 update problems.

It took me almost 5 days to completely recover and now I see that 18 of those 25 updates are ready to intall, well I'm quite worried about applying them and will wait, I have turned off automatic install for now

I'm running W7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit. I had a similar issue after the update. Had to restore to a previous point before the update (thankfully, I had a very recent restore point), and it seems to work fine now. I am also waiting for Microsoft to fix the issue before re-installing any of the updates. After updating, Windows "was unable to start," and Windows Startup Repair failed. I tried a few repair options, and nothing worked, except restoring.

Anyone with issues - please email me at susan-at-msmvps.com (change the -at- to @ ) and I can get a case set up to investigate the root cause. Without support cases, they can't know the issues.

Will Microsoft kindly remove this update - presumably Windows6.1-KB2864202-x64.
