10/8/2013 Windows Update has Jacked my PC

On 10/9/2013...yesterday...I installed the large Windows Update for October.   During the reboot phase, my computer Blue Screened.  First time that has ever happened to me in 20 years with a Windows Update.  So I had to force shutdown and start the pc.   Booted up again normally..blue screen.  Tried again in Safe Mode and it appeared to finish finally.

So that is an issue of itself.  However, the Windows Update appears to have caused me some serious problems this past day.   My computer constantly freezes after some duration of usage, no matter what I'm doing.   (What I mean by "freeze" is "crash", but not BSOD...just can't do anything, even at-tab or alt-cntl-delete)  PC crashed/froze 4-5 times after the update and now.

This is the first major issue I've ever had with a WU and I've no clue what to do.  I did some Googling and there does appear to a lot of people having problems with this update and some mention of KB...2330, although I've no clue if that specific update is my problem or not.

Help would be appreciated.

(On a sidenote, I find this whole "community support" tool to not be very user-friendly at all and cumbersome.  For one , the sort feature just flat does not work)

    Susan:

    I have repeated tried to install KB2864202 for last 2 monthes.  It always appears to install, but on reboot it fails and reverts to the previous stage.  It is very frustrating and time consuming.  I am running Windows 7 Enterprise - 64 bit.  HP laptop EliteBook 8440P with docking.

    I cantacted our IT department and they know nothing about this patch.

    please advise how can i either install or byass this patch.

    Well,

    I have the same issue as you. However it was a disaster for me. Indeed, I'm in charge of a Windows Server 2008R2 and installed the KB2864202 update. Failed to install, crashed and resulted in a wdf01000.sys corrupted (so no chance to startup the server). Great, thanks Microsoft, but I'm not playing.

    I had 28 updates to install and installed all of them excepted that one which is causing that disaster (after having restored to the previous snapshot - I was right to have done that everytime I need to install that kind of updates). My TMP var :

    TEMP=C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\1

    TMP=C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\1

    Are they OK ? Not at all ?

    Reset my Dell Mini, running Windows 7 Starter, back to factory setting and proceeded through all the Microsoft  updates for the past 3 years. Now seems to be running OK. One outstanding "Critical" update the infamous KB2862330 - not going to touch this one with a barge pole. Perhaps someone should start a class action suit against Microsoft for all the aggravation and lost productivity.

    Haven't tried anything yet with Acer desktop running Vista as it seems to be OK and is mainly used these days to keep backups of photos and documents.

    I am not able to get beyond the desktop in regular mode and, therefore, cannot access Windows Update. I also cannot access Windows Update from Safe Mode. When this problem first appeared I was able to access Windows Update. I don't know the precise name for the Windows Update page I was on, but I can tell you how I got there. Automatic download for Windows Updates is activated for my computer. A small icon appears in the bar in the lower right corner of my computer whenever Windows Updates have been downloaded and are ready to install. Ever since October 8 that icon has been present in regular mode and occasionally displays bubbles to draw attention to itself. When I clicked on that icon a list of updates would appear that are available to be installed. I was not able to uninstall any updates from that page because none of those updates had been installed. However, on that page there was a note that said click on this note to see installed updates. When I clicked on that note a list of installed updates would appear. When I clicked on one of the offending Oct. 8 updates, I think I remember that several actions were offered. I remember clearly that Uninstall was not offered.

    Hello Susan,

    I did a reinstall of office 2007, but nothing has changed. I have tried to find a office 2007 forum, but my computer now takes so long to do anything I haven't been able to.
