Flight Sim X will not work on Windows 8.1

I have the official release of 8.1 now, downloaded last night and FSX still does not work.

I can get through the menus but when I click to fly now, it drops me back to the desktop and gives me a fatal error.

I have tried:

 1. A system restore back to windows 8, followed by the 8.1 upgrade.

 2. Fresh install of FSX with no add-ons

 3. Tried 'run as admin' and all different compatibility modes.

It still does not work...FS2004 works great. FSX did work in Windows 8.0 fine.

This needs to be fixed, otherwise Microsoft will have killed FSX.

    why does combat flight simulator 3 works fine on windows 8.1 pro x64 but flight simulator x

    keep crashing when i play some airplanes like cessna c172sp and it does not show up in

    program compatibility troublshooter while all other programs and cfs3 show up and in apps

    fsx does not show up under microsoft games like cfs3. it could be video software problem i have

    radeon hd 7850 card but when i removed the software and used windows driver from windows update

    it works better but still some problems.

    I have the same problem. My PC updated to 8.1 under the guise of routine updates. I have tried reinstalling FS X and it will no longer load at all. As suggested above, I've updated my graphics driver (it was already up to date).

    This is a disgrace and needs sorting urgently!

    I have same problem folks but why oh why have Microsoft Games Studios not taken this problem on board and issue a definitive solution. There must be thousands of us "Simmers" sitting twiddling our thumbs with frustration. Come on Microsoft get your finger out or we will be looking for Refund  on Flite Sim X,
