Flight Sim X will not work on Windows 8.1

I have the official release of 8.1 now, downloaded last night and FSX still does not work.

I can get through the menus but when I click to fly now, it drops me back to the desktop and gives me a fatal error.

I have tried:

 1. A system restore back to windows 8, followed by the 8.1 upgrade.

 2. Fresh install of FSX with no add-ons

 3. Tried 'run as admin' and all different compatibility modes.

It still does not work...FS2004 works great. FSX did work in Windows 8.0 fine.

This needs to be fixed, otherwise Microsoft will have killed FSX.

THANK YOU!  These settings within FSX appear to have stabilized the app for me.  I still got an error, but far less frequent than what I was getting.

Excellent, kifr !! I am glad it worked for you as well.

I also skyrocketed my frame rate and stopped ALL crashing including when using the menu while in fullscreen (normally would crach after a few uses, like on a long flight, or an aircraft change).

To do so, I am using an alternate UIAutomationCore.dll.  FSX has never been a better experience. It now runs flawlessly.

If you want to try, download the file from my OneDrive ( http://1drv.ms/1ci0HOJ ) and place it in your main FSX directory. It is a proper working UIAutomationCore.dll that will improve frame rate, as well as allow you to change any menu variables while in a full screen flight. No more crashing after a few uses of the menu. That menu crash problem plagued me since install. It is no more :-)

You will be amazed, It is like a new game afterwards.  Runs better for me than it ever has.

    GAME ON!

Hey guys and gals this is the fix right here ,all I did was download this file put in dir. adjusted my frame too unlimited and it works flawless, thanks for the file BullGod great job. I tried to make it crash and could not, SYSTEM=win 8.1 64bit GT640 vid 1.8ghz processor dual core 8gig mem nothing special here cheap.

I would suggest try to reinstall it<trunked for tidiness>

What really annoys me as well is that there hasn't been any response from MS for several months - they've just totally washed their hands of the problem and that is utterly disgusting.</trunked for tidiness>

    FireB1rd,

I will have to agree with you there. The least they could do is respond with a "Oh, we really di**ed that up with 8.1, we apologize".

Although for me, my research and work DID make the game run better for me than it ever had. It had always crashed after using the menu too many times.  Not now.

Hope everyone can get it resolved.

I would suggest try to reinstall it because I have windows 8.1 and I'm not having any issues after I fixed the compatibility. Then I also have all intel in my computer. Intel HD 4000 graphics Intel processor 3.6ghz. Also Intel chipset. So I am thinking it may be something to do with the graphics. All I can really suggest now is delete it then restart your computer then reinstall it then change the compatibility again and see if that helps. If not check ur error messages and see if it's giving a error message and what code it's giving you.

thanks for you suggestion - I've been through all of that before and nothing has worked. I've now bought another PC with Windows XP and have installed it on there where it works fine. My main PC exceeds in every respect the specifications MS list and, as I repeatedly reiterate, it worked fine under Windows 8 so it is clearly a change that MS made during the upgrade to 8.1 and they should not expect users to spend many hours trying to sort out a problem that they should have identified during their own testing BEFORE forcing an automatic upgrade on us. Having caused the problem, they SHOULD be able to reviewed the changes THEY made and SHOULD be able to make further changes to resolve the problem.

What really annoys me as well is that there hasn't been any response from MS for several months - they've just totally washed their hands of the problem and that is utterly disgusting.
