Flight Sim X will not work on Windows 8.1

I have the official release of 8.1 now, downloaded last night and FSX still does not work.

I can get through the menus but when I click to fly now, it drops me back to the desktop and gives me a fatal error.

I have tried:

 1. A system restore back to windows 8, followed by the 8.1 upgrade.

 2. Fresh install of FSX with no add-ons

 3. Tried 'run as admin' and all different compatibility modes.

It still does not work...FS2004 works great. FSX did work in Windows 8.0 fine.

This needs to be fixed, otherwise Microsoft will have killed FSX.

    I have been running FSX on Windows 8.1 for over six months works fine with a rare "stop working. Best "run as Administrator"

    Now I want to try it on Windows 10 not sure how it will work.

    I certainly have to agree on this one. The wave of SHAME should be a Tsunami at Microsoft right now. But my granny used to say, "You can't shame a FOOL."

    the error code I get is 1628 - failed to install - any ideas anyone?

    Ever since I installed 8.1 I cannot even get my disc to read on FSX. It will not boot the setup exe file on disc one, it works for dices 2 but that is useless. Very frustrated that I cannot use this sim any more!!
