Lockscreen issues on Windows 8.1

I can not change my lock screen at all. It just loads but does not allow me to change it at all. The link is a video, hopefully demonstrating my problem. I am running a purchased and activated version of windows 8.1. (Purchased windows 8 and upgraded).

  1. First, open the registry using Regedit.exe.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lock Screen
  3. Right-click on the folder and select Export.
  4. Save this as a backup incase this doesn't work for you.
  5. Copy the text in my last post, starting with Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00, into Notepad.
  6. Save the file as Update.reg.
  7. Right-click on the file and select merge.
  8. If you hit F5 in Regedit, you should see the new fields added.
  9. Try to set your lock screen, You may have to close it down first then restart the settings for it to take affect.

    I've tried this three times and the new update is not populating in the reg location for me to merge

    hello ihayesjr,

     i made step by step as u wrote it. the thing is after restartin my pc i still have the same issue. The lock screen stuck on the loading of the image. i hit f5 in the registry and the missing files are there but still nothing is happening and it is as it was before. 

    although i do not know what do u mean by, quote "You may have to close it down first then restart the settings for it to take affect." thanks in advance

    I have followed the steps and I kept getting an error. I even tried inserting the keys in myself. I got the added extension files but it still didn't fix the lockscreen.

    This actually also applies to Windows 10. I had this issue with a new fresh installation of build 14393 (restone) and this registry fix fixed my broken Windows Spotlight. Instantly the picture showed in the settings and all is working perfectly now.
