Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center doesn't recognize Sculpt Comfort Keyboard (Windows 8.1 x64)

Windows Updates 100% up-to-date

The transmitter is working off a front-panel USB port as the signal was not being picked up from back, blocked by my desk presumably.

Definitely in a USB2 slot, where I have the mouse transmitter too.

Have you tried plugging in only the keyboard device and using a standard USB mouse rather than the ARC Mouse? I am curious as to whether one device is interfering with the other in some way.  Both devices are showing up as expected in Device Manager, and it looks good there.

So, try removing the ARC mouse device.  You will need a standard mouse to do this because you obviously will lose mouse functionality.  Reboot after doing that and see if your keyboard is recognized.

After that, try uninstalling the keyboard device from both the Keyboards and Human Interface Devices categories, but do not check the option to delete the drivers from the hard drive.  Reboot, and then see if your keyboard is afterward recognized.  Let us know.

So, here's my story.

Well, I'm a programmer too, and I'll tell you that if I found a v2.3 of the software on Microsoft Hardware website, it's their problem, not mine. It's not available there anymore, so I think that was a mistake, maybe beta version. Anyway, I reinstalled v2.2.

I ended up buying me a Sculpt Comfort Desktop for Christmas - a suite that contains both keyboard and mouse, and you know what? It works just fine, and is being recognized just fine. And, moreover, a single bluetooth version of Sculpt Comfort Mouse has also been recognized on the same computer (now, I use it on my notebook).

So, as a developer, I can give your programmers one advice: check the recognition algorythm. Since there was a "Microsoft Mouse Dual Receiver" device though I haven't had a 2.4 GHz mouse. For me, it seems like Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center fails to recognize a single keyboard because it searches for a suite, including 2.4 GHz mouse, and since it doesn't find it, it thinks there's no Sculpt Comfort devices at all. In other words, it fails to recognize Sculpt Comfort Keyboard when it's alone, and recognizes it just in pair with mouse.

I am having the same problem.  I have a new (Oct 2013) HP laptop.  Originally had Win8 64-bit.  Installed MS Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop KB+Mouse.  It automatically (no CD) installed Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center 2.2, everything worked great.  Just yesterday (3/8/14) I updated to Win8.1.  Mouse and KB still work just fine.  When I went into Control Panel, Mouse, it gave a message Network Resource not found, but it was the temporary location on C: that the MSM+KBCntr used when it installed.  I had to cancel through that 4 times to get to the Mouse settings.  Clicked on MSM+KBCntr and it said "No device detected.", as in no keyboard detect and no mouse detected.  Yup, you guess it, I had clicked on that using the undetected mouse.

So let's be totally clear.  This is not a hardware issue.  This is not a "which USB port" issue.  MSM+KBCntr does not work correctly with Win8.1.  It's that simple.  This is what we label as "embarrassing".  Who made the KB+M? MS.  Who provided Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center? MS.  Who provided Windows 8.1? MS.

Come on Microsoft, this kind of incompatibility simply should not have occurred to begin with, and should not be an ongoing issue.

If this is such a difficult problem for MS to solve, Microsoft can contact me ( bruce at brucereed dotcom ) for my hardware details, but you can't get much more mainstream than an HP laptop less than 6 months old.

(Yup, there's my email, go ahead and spam me, I'm only getting 200 a day, so ... ).

I've got the same issue here, the Microsoft 2.3 program does not recognize the Sculpt Comfort Keyboard. 

Instead, it works properly on my desktop.

And as you guys did, I also noticed that the Sculpt Comfort Keyboard isn't listed at this page: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/help/windows-8/troubleshooting/mouse/supported-devices

I think that is not the explanation but might be the reason of this problem. I can not understand why Microsoft did not include this keyboard (which I liked a lot) on the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center list, even in it's most recent version (2.3.145)
