I've recently upgraded my computer, bought Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Keyboard and installed Windows 8.1 x64.
I also installed Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center v.2.2, that's offered on the Microsoft Hardware website.
The keyboard works like a charm, but Mouse and Keyboard Center doesn't recognize it.
There's a driver for keyboard in device manager called "Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (Mouse and Keyboard Center)", and there's also a mouse driver called "Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Mouse (Mouse and Keyboard Center)", though I don't have any wireless mice. There are also two devices under HID devices group, "Microsoft hardware - USB-keyboard" and "Microsoft hardware - USB-mouse". Disabling those mouse drivers doesn't help.
What's wrong and how can I make Mouse and Keyboard Center see my Sculpt Comfort Keyboard?

I have the Sculpt Comfort wireless mouse and keyboard set:

I am using them on a laptop, and I was experiencing the same thing. While the mouse was identified as a sculpt mouse, it was the wrong one, and the keyboard was identified as a generic wireless keyboard. Microsoft mouse and keyboard center said there were no compatible devices on the system.
Did the whole try different usb ports and so forth and then did this to get it to work:
1. While mouse and keyboard were connected, go to device manager and right click on the keyboard(s) and uninstall driver (and remove driver for keyboard). Did the same for the mouse (I have a laptop so I had a mouse left over).
2. Unplugged the wireless USB dongle.
3. Downloaded 2.7 version of Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center and installed it (Said yes to "reinstall". It comes up and says no compatible devices detected detected (since I don't have them plugged in)
4. Plugged in the USB wireless Dongle
- The keyboard and mouse were then identified and show up.
Don't know if that will work with a USB version and/or a desktop, but figured it would be worth noting in case someone else was searching and couldn't find a solution and came upon this thread...

2016-08-15T20:12:25+00:00 The written instructions that came with the Microsoft keyboard and mouse I have specifically stated that drivers must be installed before the hardware is plugged in. I always had problems if I plugged the dongle in before installing the drivers.

2016-08-15T20:41:52+00:00 Isn't the KGR1173 number for the cover for your keyboard, as in "Microsoft Mobile KGR1173 X822995-001 Keyboard Protector"? That number doesn't sound familiar for a keyboard from Microsoft. If I recall correctly, that cover fits the Microsoft Sculpt 1531. So, if you are looking for the number KGR1173 in Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Center, I am not surprised you aren't finding it there.
