Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center doesn't recognize Sculpt Comfort Keyboard (Windows 8.1 x64)

I originally bought the keyboard and had the aforementioned issues with the software not recognizing the keyboard (see my earlier threads).  I returned the keyboard and bought the desktop set with the Sculpt Comfort Keyboard and Mouse.  The keyboard and mouse were instantly recognized; no driver installation was needed.  How hard can be for MS to add the lone keyboard to its detection driver?  It's not an old keyboard.

You are saying that the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center does recognize your keyboard with the Sculpt Comfort Desktop?

That's simply ridiculous, it's a shame for Microsoft, because the keyboard are sold separated in my country and I believe that in others too. 

Even at the official Microsoft site they are not announcing the Sculpt Comfort DESKTOP yet. 

I don't know when they are going to release support to the keyboard alone. But I will have to live with it, that's because I already paid for my keyboard and only God knows when they will start to sell the kit here. 

At least it is working.

There is no version 2.3.145 available for download from the official Microsoft hardware support website that I could find anywhere there.  The latest version available is 2.2.173.0.  You may well have installed hidden malware--and as yet unidentifiable because too new for current detection signatures--on your PC from the file download site where you obtained the unofficial driver.  Hopefully not but that is the chance you take when installing unofficial drivers and software from third-party sites.

You might not speak Portuguese, but you can understand this at the 'Suporte' section and then 'Softwares e Drivers'. 

I took a look at the English site too and I noticed that YOUR latest version is the 2.2

What is happening? That is a very good question.  I do not know.  That is interesting, though, that the other-language support site got newer drivers and software first.  Hopefully the English sites will see the same soon.

Very interesting indeed. I don't know when they lauched this 2.3 version for us, but the changelog must be minimal, it might be changed only the language support even. 

The 2.2 and 2.3 version can be almost the same one who knows... 

But I can tell you that even in our 2.3 version the keyboard are not detected, which is funny in some point. 

Did you install both keyboard and mouse, or just the keyboard? In some cases, I have heard that if only one component is installed the other won't be recognized either.  Note sure about your situation.

Actually my mouse is not the Microsoft Sculpt Comfort, it is the Microsoft 3500. The Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center does recognize this mouse, but does not recognize the single Microsoft Sculpt Keyboard.

I already tried to install only the keyboard without any mouse, but with no success.

The keyboard is working properly for me. The only annoying thing is that the program are not notifying me when the Caps Lock or Num Lock is activated or not, and I can not have access to the complete keyboard configuration.

Microsoft has updated hardware components.  They are not under obligation to support older hardware constructs when newer is available or when they discontinue an older version or other hardware series.  They aim for backward compatibility but this is not always possible.

For those with older hardware (yes, even the retail and online stores still sometimes sell outdates hardware) they are recommending uninstalling mouse and keyboard center and using the IntelliPoint Software instead.

I agree with you but both the Sculpt Comfort Mouse, Keyboard and Desktop are not old hardware, they are some of the most recent. 

IntelliPoint is the old software used for Microsoft mice and keyboard, right? Which does not work with the newest hardware.

Even some of the most recent have had hardware revisions.  If they are extensive enough changes they get new version numbers.  Sometimes, even the slightest change will result in a driver that worked before ceasing to work for future revisions.  That is what I have seen at least.  If Microsoft recommends installing IntelliPoint for some devices, I would think that for those devices the drivers would work on even the newer hardware.

Other than that, I do not know.  I tried contacting somebody from Microsoft about this but was unable to get in contact with anyone who could get the information at this time.
