Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center doesn't recognize Sculpt Comfort Keyboard (Windows 8.1 x64)

I've recently upgraded my computer, bought Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Keyboard and installed Windows 8.1 x64.

I also installed Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center v.2.2, that's offered on the Microsoft Hardware website.

The keyboard works like a charm, but Mouse and Keyboard Center doesn't recognize it.

There's a driver for keyboard in device manager called "Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (Mouse and Keyboard Center)", and there's also a mouse driver called "Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Mouse (Mouse and Keyboard Center)", though I don't have any wireless mice. There are also two devices under HID devices group, "Microsoft hardware - USB-keyboard" and "Microsoft hardware - USB-mouse". Disabling those mouse drivers doesn't help.

What's wrong and how can I make Mouse and Keyboard Center see my Sculpt Comfort Keyboard?

Hi werefrog. No, this doesn't make any sence. So, I've tried: Reinstalling Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center from v2.2 to v2.3; Performing a clean boot; Manually installing HID-compliant devices drivers for mouse (which is not present) and keyboard; Disabling and enabling again Legacy USB support in BIOS; Reconnecting wireless receiver between several USB ports, including USB 3.0 ones; Dancing with other BIOS settings and drivers. Nothing helps. So it seems to me like software (MS Mouse Kbd Center) is bad and/or it doesn't either support Windows 8.1 or my keyboard (maybe only without mouse). Anyway, what should work just doesn't work. Maybe the problem is in Intel drivers, but seriously, do I need to uninstall ALL Intel USB drivers for that "kind of software" to work? The site below fixed my Cyborg Mouse and keyboard so it should get you going. I posted how I fixed mine but perhaps yours has a different fix. WHY THE **** is Microsoft not fixing this issue, which has been around since Win 7 was introduced?

"MS MOUSE DRIVERS SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED_ Your Device is Ready to use!" ???????

This is where MS pisses off so many users who say t'**** with 'em, and go to Mac.

I am running win 7 enterprise 64bit with the exact same issues as detailed above/below. Un/re-installed drivers provided on the MS HW site. Is there any support for the various LOCK keys? If not I plan to return to Amazon.

UnInstall Bluetooth drivers and re-install Bluetooth drivers meant for Windows 7 or Windows 8.0 in "Windows 7 Compatibility Mode".

I had tried all suggestions and troubleshooting steps including disabling power saving options, doing a factory reset and clean install of Windows 8.0 / 8.1 but I continued to have problems with Microsoft Bluetooth mice (w/o USB dongles) randomly disconnecting. The ONLY solution that worked for me was un-installing existing Bluetooth drivers from Control Panel as well as Device Manager and re-installing Bluetooth drivers meant for Windows 7 or Windows 8.0 in "Windows 7 Compatibility Mode". The key here is installing Bluetooth drivers in "Windows 7 Compatibility Mode" by right-clicking the Bluetooth EXE file > Properties & selecting "Windows 7 Compatibility Mode". Avoid Bluetooth drivers meant for Windows 8.1. Luckily, my touchscreen laptop manufacturer (Acer) had both Windows 7 & Window 8.0 Atheros Bluetooth drivers for my model on their support website. Additional side-benefits I noticed after doing this:
1. All three models of built-in Bluetooth Microsoft mice (Microsoft Scuplt Touch, Sculpt Comfort & Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000) started working perfectly without any sudden disconnects or freezing;
2. The overall mouse operations also became lot smoother and predictable;
3. Windows Power Management started working perfectly with the laptop going into sleep / standby nicely and waking up instantly without any lockups or WiFi issues
4. CPU / Fan noise is much quieter-- it seems the Bluetooth drivers installed as I suggest are more "in harmony" with the rest of the system.
5. Everything including the Bluetooth mouse is working great for almost a week since I made these changes. I promptly updated my complete system image backup with the new setup.

Yes. Identical keyboard in the desktop set and it works with no issues. Had it for a couple of months now with no issues. Note that the desktop set IS listed as supported, yet the keyboard by itself isn't. Go figure.

Ok, but that is too bad for those who bought only the keyboard.

The Sculpt Comfort Desktop is not listed either. You can see that only the Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop is listed.

But if it is working just fine for you in the program, that's ok then.
