Error Code 80073712 Windows update Win 8.1 x64

Ok so here are the system specs

After the last update and restart. I am unable to use Windows update.

I have tried the troubleshooting steps but the problem still exists.

SFC returns no problem at all.

Problem occurring for updates KB2936068 and KB2919355

Using their standalone installer isn't working either.

Hi Jaxx,

Microsoft has issued a fix for your error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969339

After you install it, the rest of the updates should download automatically.

    Thanks I hadn't thought of that.

    One problem though, it is detecting a lot of legit stuff as malware or PUP including my Google Chrome preferences file and some extensions.

    Also most of the stuff found says PUP and a few Adware.

    I think you'll have to consider removing all that stuff to eliminate it as the cause of the problem. If after deleting it all, the problem persists, you can reinstall them again.

    Removed all of them and the problem still remains.

    On another note, I noticed Windows Update installed an update to Flash player for IE which means Windows update is working, but these 2 updates wont install.

    Hi Jaxx,

    Sorry to hear things are not going according to plan.

    Could you please run a check on the following please.

    1. Hit Windows key + R to launch Run and then type (or copy/paste) services.msc and click OK. This will take you to the Services Management Console.
    2. Find "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" a.k.a. BITS and double click it. Does it look the way you see it in the first screenshot? If it differs in any way and especially if it shows as "Stopped", make a note and then close that particular menu to take you back to the Services console.
    3. Next, hit the letter W which will take you to all the services which start with that letter (saves having to scroll to get there) and then double click "Windows Update". Does that look like it does in my second screenshot?

    If BITS shows as "Stopped", close the Services console, right click the Start button and go to Command Prompt (Admin).

    Next, type: net start bits and hit Enter.

    If Windows Update also shows as "Stopped", use the same command prompt to type followiing command and hit Enter: net start wuauserv

    Close the command prompt and open Windows Update in Control Panel and then try and install one or two updates manually from the queue.
