Error Code 80073712 Windows update Win 8.1 x64

Ok so here are the system specs

After the last update and restart. I am unable to use Windows update.

I have tried the troubleshooting steps but the problem still exists.

SFC returns no problem at all.

Problem occurring for updates KB2936068 and KB2919355

Using their standalone installer isn't working either.

Hi Jaxx,

Microsoft has issued a fix for your error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969339

After you install it, the rest of the updates should download automatically.

    Dear Xircal,

    Thanks for your prompt reply but alas, the update still failed after running both

    of those fixes. Back to the drawing board for me, I guess. I didn't really

    complain about Win8, 8.1 or any of the other "fixes" until running into this

    rather serious problem. I hope that MS releases something for the hapless cadre

    of Win8.1 users.

    I didn't read your instruction clearly enough. Maybe when the newer Windows Update Agent (...17092)  is automatically installed, then the Win8.1 update will finally install.

    Do you have KB2919442 installed? It's a prerequisite to install KB2919355, the latter of which is the 8.1 Update. To check, right click the Start button, go to "Programs and Features" and click the link top left to "View installed updates". Then copy/paste KB2919442 into the Search field top right. It will appear immediately if it's installed.

    If it's not installed, that's where the problem lies and you can install it manually from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919442

    If it's already installed, then proceed as follows.

    Go to the post marked as Answer (blue and white checkmark) at the foot of this Technet thread. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/5ff8c72a-3b83-4d8d-a9e2-9219bca3ac03/kb2919355?forum=w8itproinstall

    You can copy / paste the commands in the thread as follows.

    1. Right click the Start button and go to "Command Prompt (Admin)".
    2. Copy a command and then right click the black button top left of the command prompt window and go to Edit followed by Paste and then hit Enter.

    Repeat for the additional commands.

    If after running the commands, KB2919355 still fails to install via Windows Update, download it manually from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/DownloadResults.aspx?q=KB2919355

    If you have to go the manual route, please note that when you click the red Download button after selecting either 32-bit or 64-bit, you'll be presented with a choice of five options. These have to be installed one at a time in a particular order as per the screenshot starting with the one at the top.

    Thanks again,

    ...442 was installed on March 14, I am waiting for maintenance to replace my WUAENG.dll to the current version (hopefully). The MS manual install site has a slightly different order for the installations, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
