Error Code 80073712 Windows update Win 8.1 x64

Ok so here are the system specs

After the last update and restart. I am unable to use Windows update.

I have tried the troubleshooting steps but the problem still exists.

SFC returns no problem at all.

Problem occurring for updates KB2936068 and KB2919355

Using their standalone installer isn't working either.

Hi Jaxx,

Microsoft has issued a fix for your error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969339

After you install it, the rest of the updates should download automatically.

    Hi Jaxx,

    There's a little bit of good news concerning Patch Tuesday next week.

    It would appear from Microsoft's Advanced Notification Bulletin for May 2014 that there's only one patch which affects Windows 8.1 and that applies to Internet Explorer 10 & 11.

    So if you fail to install the infamous KB2919355 by May 13, you won't be affected provided you use another browser like Google Chrome or Firefox.

    Also, I suspect that Microsoft will relent and provide the patch to IE users as well considering the mess its created, but don't quote me on that.

    Still, it does offer some respite by giving you another month to sort things out.

     /RestoreHealth still fails

    Try it with  /loglevel:4 and redirect to a /logpath:    Again, since I don't know how to read between the lines of any log I would be running with ProcMon to supplement whatever diagnostics you get.   And ProcMon doesn't just supplement diagnostics that you know about, it makes you aware of others that you haven't seen.  I would be particularly watchful for that phenomenon when using the debug level logging.  E.g. they might start squirreling things away all over the place, even if the new records in dism.log just look like clutter.   ; }

    Jaxx,

    Can you check the following please.

    1. Right click the Start button and go to Programs and Features at the top.
    2. In the links top left, click "View installed updates".
    3. In the Search field top right, copy/paste: KB2919442

    If it's installed, it will appear immediately below.

    If it's not installed, go here and download it manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919442

    If you have to install it, then proceed with the manual installation of KB2919355 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42335

    If it fails to install, do the following.

    1. Hit Windows key + R to open Run and then copy/paste: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and click OK.
    2. In the SoftwareDistribution folder which opens, scroll down to ReportingEvents.logand open that.
    3. Scroll down to the bottom of the log file first, then scroll across the right, but stop a bit before the end so that you can see the updates,
    4. Find KB2919355 and place the cursor at the end of it. Then hold down SHIFT while you hit the HOME key.
    5. Right click the highlight, choose Copy and then come here, right click and choose Paste. You might find two entries for KB2919355 so copy both if you do please.
