Error Code 80073712 Windows update Win 8.1 x64

Ok so here are the system specs

After the last update and restart. I am unable to use Windows update.

I have tried the troubleshooting steps but the problem still exists.

SFC returns no problem at all.

Problem occurring for updates KB2936068 and KB2919355

Using their standalone installer isn't working either.

Hi Jaxx,

Microsoft has issued a fix for your error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969339

After you install it, the rest of the updates should download automatically.

    I hope you haven't started down the road to reset your machine yet because I've just read on Infoworld that Microsoft will release a fix for the KB2919355 installation failure within the next few hours.

    Both of them are started and running. But i still stopped them and started them again manually. Still the same.

    As I read somewhere else this problem seems to affect those systems that upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7 which was my case. But I had done a reset so it shudnt affect my system. But still, looks like I'm going to have to do a clean install which I'm not too keen on especially coz I have some programs which I got from GAOTD and other giveaways which I won't be able to use after doing a clean install and yes I use them fairly regularly.

    Hi Jaxx,

    Sorry to hear things are not going according to plan.

    Could you please run a check on the following please.

    1. Hit Windows key + R to launch Run and then type (or copy/paste) services.msc and click OK. This will take you to the Services Management Console.
    2. Find "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" a.k.a. BITS and double click it. Does it look the way you see it in the first screenshot? If it differs in any way and especially if it shows as "Stopped", make a note and then close that particular menu to take you back to the Services console.
    3. Next, hit the letter W which will take you to all the services which start with that letter (saves having to scroll to get there) and then double click "Windows Update". Does that look like it does in my second screenshot?

    If BITS shows as "Stopped", close the Services console, right click the Start button and go to Command Prompt (Admin).

    Next, type: net start bits and hit Enter.

    If Windows Update also shows as "Stopped", use the same command prompt to type followiing command and hit Enter: net start wuauserv

    Close the command prompt and open Windows Update in Control Panel and then try and install one or two updates manually from the queue.
