Hi Jaxx,
Microsoft has issued a fix for your error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969339
After you install it, the rest of the updates should download automatically.
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Ok so here are the system specs
After the last update and restart. I am unable to use Windows update.
I have tried the troubleshooting steps but the problem still exists.
SFC returns no problem at all.
Problem occurring for updates KB2936068 and KB2919355
Using their standalone installer isn't working either.

Hi Jaxx,
Microsoft has issued a fix for your error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969339
After you install it, the rest of the updates should download automatically.
Hello all and especially Xircal,
WinUpdate8.1 (KB...712) Finally installed automatically. Xircal had warned me the other day about not "resetting" my PC because MS was coming out with a "fix" according to this week's InfoWorld. Lo and Behold the fixed update installed itself.
FYI though, I had prevented MalWareBytes Premium from running with Windows, and was notified about rebooting from the Win8.1 menu screen - whereas I run Stardock's Start8 desktop. It is very unfortunate that many are still having problems with this update. Last week after 18 install failures, MS Tech support tried everything remotely (most of which I had already done) and then talked me into MS Assure with 1 year TS for a paltry $149. After stewing overnight, I successfully cancelled the charge the next day thinking "why should I have to pay for a bungled MS mistake".
This debacle has restored my complete lack of confidence in MS who care little about the average consumer and only about the bottom line. With every version of Windows since the 90's on almost 20 PCs, I draw closer and closer to Macs, Linux Ubuntu, Chrome, and any other OS rather than one from MS!
Hi Jaxx,
Not having much luck are you.
There's a possibility the following may work (did for somebody else with the same problem).
If you run that, it should fix the problem.
If it doesn't, Microsoft has just published a new troubleshooting article which might help: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/install-latest-update-windows-8-1
Scroll down to: Troubleshoot problems installing the update
2014-05-07 11:01:46, Error DISM DISM Package Manager: PID=5560 TID=4088 Failed to restore the image health. - CPackageManagerCLIHandler::ProcessCmdLine_CleanupImage(hr:0x80240021)

[gle=0x80004005]
What's the context? E.g. was that a manual execution of dism /cleanup-image or something that a failed install might have tried as a recovery procedure?
Obviously, by the timestamps, the DISM and CBS log entries being examined are unrelated, so again, what was the context?
You could use other higher level logs such as ReportingEvents.log or WindowsUpdate.log or an install log to clarify. For best results from future tests I would use ProcMon to both correlate and supplement all the diagnostic sources that you have.
However, if we would believe the CBS.log clues "STATUS_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT" and "EnsureComponentFullyPresent" instead of trying something that might be destructive and create a worse problem, e.g. RestoreHealth, how about first trying some of the diagnostic procedures that DISM allows?
Ref:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825265.aspx
Use /CheckHealth to check whether the image has been flagged as corrupted by a failed process and whether the corruption can be repaired.
Use /ScanHealth to scan the image for component store corruption. This operation will take several minutes.
Use /AnalyzeComponentStore to create a report of the component store. For more information about the report and how to use the information provided in the report, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=293367.
I suspect those were just listed alphabetically. FWIW that is the order that I would try them.
Also, do you have an image backup to fall back to in case your experiments don't work but result in more irreversible corruption?
HTH
Robert
wasted a good part of the day Googling, and trying things to no avail.
Try some diagnosis? I would still like to see what this 0x80073712 really means. If we knew what it meant there would be a better chance of devising an effective workaround. (SOP for end users of closed source software.)
Would love to contribute anything I can, any log files I can search through?
