Error Code 80073712 Windows update Win 8.1 x64

Ok so here are the system specs

After the last update and restart. I am unable to use Windows update.

I have tried the troubleshooting steps but the problem still exists.

SFC returns no problem at all.

Problem occurring for updates KB2936068 and KB2919355

Using their standalone installer isn't working either.

Hi Jaxx,

Microsoft has issued a fix for your error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969339

After you install it, the rest of the updates should download automatically.

    I didn't read your instruction clearly enough. Maybe when the newer Windows Update Agent (...17092)  is automatically installed, then the Win8.1 update will finally install.

    Dear Xircal,

    Thanks for your prompt reply but alas, the update still failed after running both

    of those fixes. Back to the drawing board for me, I guess. I didn't really

    complain about Win8, 8.1 or any of the other "fixes" until running into this

    rather serious problem. I hope that MS releases something for the hapless cadre

    of Win8.1 users.

    Hi Bob,

    Yes, an update for a particular version of the operating system applies to both 32-bit and 64-bit.

    Try running these two Fixits:

    Provided you have Automatic Updates configured and have "Give me recommended updates.... etc." checkmarked, the Windows Update Agent should install automatically within an hour of running the second Fixit.

    My wua is older (16422), and I have auto update set to automatic but I have never received ...17092. I have 32 bit Win8.1 Pro - does this apply also? I have receive the same error code (80073712) 16 times, have run the troubleshooter, the DISM scanhealth and restorehealth successfully but no dice.  I do not want to "refresh" my PC either - the directions about recovery media, recovery partitions, reverting to Win8.0 are certainly not user friendly.
