And I'm too outdated to not know.

The blank screen, or "box" with the flashing text courser is a command prompt.

In "old school computing", pre windows like A-Basic & DOS, typed commands and text were used vs graphic menus (windows), that you then used "point and clicks" with.

A simple, powerful tool today. From being simple a short cut, to a complex programing tool, it does it a lot.

Commands prompts do(did) vary. So just be careful about "where" you are playing when throwing commands around. Make sure its the right command for that prompt.

The "windows key" + R  should bring it up if the os is running.

It can be used to launch windows, if its there, but you will have to locate updated specifics

A full lists of OS commands can be found with a search (about 300 for windows).

Just reading them over quickly would help you get a better grasp of what I'm implying as well as what you can do with them.

Save some time and reload your old OS.

Unless you're strictly a social butterfly with a need of  "less", and want something like on a cell phone, W-10 sucks. Nice on a phone maybe.

I'm going back to W-7 as soon as I copy some newer data and back up files.

Sorry to be so stupid but need to ask what is the command prompt and how do I open it to type the information???  Need simple instructions as I'm no computer whiz...guess you already figured that!!!  Thanks so much!!!!

Hi, click on Main menu->all programs->Windows Accessories find the small black box which says comman prompt then REMEMBER YOU MUST PRESS YOUR LEFT MOUSE KEY AND CLICK RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. It will open now in a Dos like black box. Now do as the former person described in that order.

    Hope it works for you
