Default gateway not available windows 8.1

I've just upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 two days ago, and it is great. But I have a problem, my wireless network that I usually connect to is now Limited. I ran the network diagnostics and it says the "Default gateway is unavailable" How can I fix this?

all you have to do is to change your network adapter driver from "Broadcom 802.11n Natwork Adapter" to "Broadcom 802.11a Natwork Adapter" and your wifi will work properly.

below are the stepsto change network adapter driver.

i have Lenovo Z580

solution worked for me was...

1>open device manager

2>expand network adapters

3>double click on Broadcom 802.11a network Adapter (i.e open your wifi N/W adapter properties) 

(Nore:- you might have Broadcom 802.11n network Adapter than select that)

4>select driver tab n click on update driver...

5>select Browse my computer for driver

6>click on let me pic from list of device....

7>unchack show compatibale hardware

8> now from the manufacturer window select Broadcomand from the Network Adapter list select the the driver having name Broadcom 802.11a Network Adapter and re connect your wifi..

Notethat u have to select 802.11a by default it was 802.11n...

if still have problem try another driver from list any one of tham will defiantly work..

    Hi,

    I have been suffering with this problem for a month now and didn't know what to do. I had read this solution earlier but when I tried changing the driver it gave me a scary message saying the driver may not work properly. Today I gave it a try and it started working perfectly. 

    I am happy I found the solution finally.

    This appears to have worked for me.  This was incredibly frustrating to figure out.  

    Just in case anyone else has the same problem I did, I'll briefly explain my situation.

    My internet was working just fine until I bought my own Motorola Surfboard SB161 modem to save $7 a month on the modem rental fee.  That's when things went haywire for some reason.

    My internet worked just fine on my work laptop with Windows 7 Professional.  on my Wife's Levono S415, the internet would cut in and out continuously.  Troubleshooting issues ran from "invalid gateway" to "wireless router has wrong IP configuration" to "cables not connected."  

    I've been trying several different things for the last hour and a half, but the internet kept cutting out every 1-2 minutes.  

    Just tried this solution, and internet has been working great for the last 10 minutes.  Not sure how changing modems would've caused this, but whatever.

    Now my WLAN work well. FYI, my NB Toshiba L630 with win8.1 Pro 64bit.

    This may be late to the party but I ended up hard wiring to the modem to see what frequencies it connects with, for me it was 802.11b,g,n and I set the driver to each of those respectively until I got a solid uninterrupted signal.  Seems to be working now at speeds that it should without the fade in and out of before.  I hope this helps for anyone still out there dealing with the 8.1 fiasco
