Support for Windows XP is ending soon

WHAT? go back an use Windows 98SE? It is  seriously flawed. It has been reported NOT by me, But I do have it and I had it in my 566i e Machines PC tower when I got my first Windows' PC. after the second time I wanted to shut it down, it would not!! It restarted back up. I tried various ways, and eventually scarred the 8 GB HDD that Windows was on it and permantly destroyed 24 clusters from it in the process... when I had to pull its plug! Eventually, I had to reboot Windows XP on it after I had done an error check to get around it. THAT went smoothly except the video Graphice Processor was very slow by not having the right drivers for it the Intel 82810 AGP... This PC was given to me from my younger brother as to study Windows so he can use it better. When I got my second PC from youngest brother, it to was a Gift as to upgrade to Windows XP. In the process this was also an e Machines model T1090, with one CD and ONE 20 GB HDD and no additional bays and one IDE channel. I discovered in the process it also used the same 82810 intel AGP, and SO I installed its drivers inside the 566i e Machine, and it went TURBO! Four times as fast! It then worked like greased lightening except I had to watch that I did not scroll up or down more than five seconds or else: a blue screen! It later after six years, it lost the second IDE channel, (the IDE drives in the 5¼-inch bays), so I scrapped it two years ago, It served me well! I still have the boot CDs of both PCs, but the T1090 e machine was sold for $300.00 to the brother that gave me the 566i, that wanted a a PC for one of his daughters with my version of Windows XP and two 160 GB HDDS and a CD RAM drive. It was promply stolen by her boyfriend... Oh Well, I got my money, so that is how I got started in the Windows PC eight years ago.

When I got my dad's inheritance, I got two new PCs from e machines as sister PCs... The T3612 is now an empty shell just in case. It has the fastest single core processor at 3.45 GHz using Windows Vista. I also got it working with Windows XP and later, by improper storage, it got heat stroke,  and wold not work so I took everything out of it except the motherboard and its processor... To replace it would take a fortune, and went for a refurbished PC for less than a motherboard replacement...

I need help with installing Windows XP, my BIOS wont allow me to change the SATA setting to IDE, causing the installation to not be able to happen, I need help.

If you have a perfectly good Windows 7 installation, don't even bother. You're not even sure that your hardware supports XP.

Get used to Windows 7, you should like it. If you don't, at least you'll be using secure computer, and you can get help.

I know how to use Windows 7, I just wish to downgrade to Windows XP, I have my drivers pre-loaded onto my flashdrive, so i'll be able to just poke it in, and do that, but the thing is, after the setup loads the files, right before the screen comes up for formatting partitions, it gives me a blue screen due to my use of ACHI, as well as IDE is not a selection in the BIOS (Greyed out) (I've used the disc for two others computers, and they've both installed with no issues.)

DAH! It is no go because you have to check the BIOS as to reset all the SATA and IDE drives to ON again, as you cannot blindly install any version of Windows without looking at the BIOS, It is not assumed as it was, it may be reset to the factory default to OFF. Also with Windows XP you have to delete all the previous versions and later versions  of Windows from your PC! AND... usually disconnect all other external devices except your monitor, mouse, and keyboard and your sound card and leave the speakers plugged in first;  and also delete any and all partitions only on the selected drive. The Help and Support says you instal the earlier version of Windows FIRST IN order of its copyright, Even if XP HE is later than XP Pro, you have to delete that installion FIRST before you can install Windows XP Pro with an earlier copyright! This what is meant as a "CLEAN BOOT of Windows". And the installing process only sees the internal drives and their partitions so that the external devices do not interfere with Windows installing process. Once booted successfully, you then install the Video AGP if the display cannot go better than 640 by 480 resoultion; and the sound drivers if Windows has no sound. THEN, ... one at a time connect the other external devices as some of the drivers will be found inside Windows, and some will not, and maybe call a restart when it says so to work properly.  It is best after to check if Windows has put on its SYSTEM files and folders elsewhere than the C partition, and make sure IT boots first by the BIOS IF it does, it means that drive ought to boot first! You have to start over if you want to correct it. As in with IDE drives it is channel 0, MASTER!!! that cable is ID inside the case on themotherboard connector. IF you have SATA drives, it SATA PORT0 regardless which bay or inside the cage. Some PC systems have both ONE IDE channel and two or four SATA PORTS.  In my case, I have four SATA ports and I want the Seagate 80 GB SATA drive to boot first. ITS SATA cable where is at must go to SATA PORT0!!! the rest do not matter. Some Systems like mine HAVE a SATA DVD drive. IF you want it to boot before the hard drive, you have to also select it to boot first and be in SATA port0 to boot properly. IF you have an IDE optical drive you only need to select it to go first. IF you do not do this, you get an error  as: "NTLDR not found" error! It wont goto the BIOS screen when you need to restart the PC. You will be stuck in a black screen with a cursor blinking in the upper left of you screen! Also check that you have equal amounts of memory in at least TWO slots or in pairs the same size, or else you get a notification error and press the key it says to continue. There is a strict check off list you must follow to the letter and no dievation from it. IN MY case, I just installed a new 400 Watt power supply because I need the extra IDE connector to have the power to the SATA Optical drive and to the rear case fan. There cannot be any second guessing. OTHERWISE POOF! you blow everything with any wrong connection! I successfully put it in on the first try and everything works perfectly. There was no rear case fan but the processor fan blowing through the processor's heat sink from behind the front bezel. The second rear case fan makes sure all the electronics stay cool including the drives as a push/pull cooling system. I will later connect up more USB HDDS and I do not want the USB system to dink out as I need about sixteen USB ports as so I can connect everything I need to be effective for me with my new PC mid tower.

In conclusion:  I put in a new POWER SUPPLY, and reconnected the DVD SATA drive, added two PCI to USB 4 + 1 Port cards, a case fan and a Seagate 500 GB Free Agent portable drive all inside the case for starters. I also put in three additional SATA drives three days earlier, and it wont be a slow turkey!
