You can continue using Windows XP if you want to - no one is forcing you into anything.  You are being told that Windows XP support (monthly patching) is ending.  Beyond that, people who understand about computing and security are warning you that it is likely flaws will be found in the future for now supported operating systems that will get patched on those but, given the base code is the same or similar, will be exposed on the Windows XP OS.  So in continuing to run (your choice entirely) you accept such a known risk.

in the end, given the way most treat their home computers and security anyway, those running Older OSes on an always connected Internet connection have a decent chance of having already been compromised and just not knowing it - in my opinion.

What products do you have that was manufactured (software included) in December 2001 that still gets maintained freely by their manufacturer as of today (March 2014)?

I'm so angry about this - I dont see why I should have to a) purchase an overpriced version of microsoft because its all a bloody rip by a greedy corporation and b) buy a new computer and throw out one that works perfectly fine in fact better than the buggy one thats on Windows 7 what the bloody heck is wrong with ppl that everything should be chucked out and upgraded just cos its not the latest technology? is this the materialistic ways of living that we are going to teach our children? I dont have the money for either of these so Microsoft bite me if you want me to upgrade cos you dont want to support xp anymore then give me a free upgrade im not paying for it! :(

no company in the world supports a product for ever. you've had 12 or 13 years. enough is enough. carry on using your computer, it's not suddenly going to stop working anyway.

Well in both actual and real terms 8.1 is cheaper than XP home ever was. The hardware is nothing to do with Microsoft.

IMO, as someone that has used every version from 3.1 onwards, each version has been more stable than its predecessor.

No, this is not materialistic, IMO. If Microsoft did not develop and improve their products they would cede significant market share to competitors that are prepared to develop better products. Just as natural species must evolve or die out, so must businesses. What sort of a mess do you think you would be in now if Microsoft had not gone on to develop Vista, 7 and 8(.1) and then went out of business with XP as their only product? (Rhetorical)

We here are not Microsoft, if you want your opinions to be heard you should write to their head office in your region and/or USA. Good luck with trying to get a free upgrade.
