Windows xp fast but windows 7 also is good. In many case only older pc's running xp. Just add more ram and try windows 7 it's work good (if your pc support windows 8, then try 8)

2014-03-07T20:40:07+00:00 OK, well thanks. I will google it and let you know. I kinda think I know what's wrong. The update I have for the end of support for XP I have not downloaded it. I don't see a reason to do so if the support is ending no matter what I do. maybe this is why.
Microsoft has not answered.

2014-03-07T20:10:51+00:00 Some of your privileges might be messed up. If the user that you are logged in as has administrative privileges you should be able to access Windows updates. Sometimes the privileges get messed up and cause this feature to lock you out of it. I have also had this happen on the Windows Firewall. If you don't want to email Microsoft, you could Google this as I am pretty sure you could find a solution online.
