USB port malfunctioning, always says "USB Device not recognized"

You may want to let them know because it could manifest in to a complete failure. Once you get File History set up you will have a backup and a systems image you can restore right back to before the repair. They may just send a new computer. Or there may be a local repair shop they use.

Do you have any other issues? LOL I am afraid to ask.

Hm....figures...lol. I think I'll just pass on fixing the USB port, I have 3 other usable ones. The computer wins this time.

However, the response I got from TechNet was if the port doesn't recognize the device and comes back with 0000 for the device data the two ways to fix it are replace the motherboard or reset the BIOS which requires you to open the laptop. Sounds like you need to backup your data and send it for warranty .

Do you have a Bios on your make and model, can you set it to "Safe Defaults".  Is there any update available for the Bios from any Motherboard manufacturer or OEM?

I do not think it has the ability to monitor. 

Would you mind posting the other question onto TechNet for me? I am having the hardest time doing it myself. 

Yeah, I fixed task scheduler about a week ago, maybe a bit less. Do you know if those updates are installed now? I think they are because I don't see anything but optional updates when I look through Windows Update. 

SW Update is a program that came with my Samsung laptop. It tells me when there are updates available for drivers and etc. I wouldn't say it is very good at finding new updates though. 

How exactly would I clean out the port? Are you talking about with a program or like, physically clean it?
