Windows 8.1 updates failing to install error 800F0920

My Win 8.1 Pro system was working fine until a few weeks ago when suddenly Windows Updates became broken.  The typical scenario is to choose one or more updates to install, it gets partway through, then reboots, then gets further along (to about 75%), then announces it can't finish the installation and has to roll back the install.  In the end, the update isn't installed.  The whole process takes hours and hours.  The first few times this happened it was in the middle of the work day and I lost use of the computer throughout the whole afternoon.

I researched the many, many similar problems that other people have experience and tried all the suggested solutions involving DSIM, SFC, deleting/renaming the update folder and files, booting "clean", and so on.  I even wrote a simple batch file to do most of this (copy at the end of this post) because I was doing it so often.  I was gradually able to get most of the updates for Windows and Office installed, except for three updates.  For those three, I cannot install them no matter what.  They are (required updates) , KB2955164, KB2966804, and Optional Update KB2962409.  I'll post the full error messages below.

The other new problem I've noticed with this system is that I can no longer change the network properties.  I was doing some tweaking on the network and I wanted to set the PC's IP address to a specific address (instead of using DHCP) and I couldn't change it. That may or may not be related -- I haven't researched it much at this point.

So, does anyone have any suggestions? It's hard to keep trying different ideas that don't work because it's so time consuming.  Since this system is at my office and I don't want to interrupt work again, I can only try doing updates at the end of the work day, and I find out the next morning whether or not it work.

Here are the error messages. You will see that the error codes are  all 800F0920.  Originally, my error codes were all either 80080005 or 80242014 and involved about a dozen updates.  So this is progress of a sorts.

I thought that was interesting too. I think what they meant is drivers for Legacy hardware to work. Non PnP hardware uses those drivers to work in windows. I wonder why the cbs log didn't have anything in it for the update. Its last entry was at 08-03 04:22:32 and the last one in the update log was 2014-08-03 04:22:32

Did the setupact.log or setuperr.log have a date that indicated something wrote to them during one of the update tries? There are a lot of these logs one is in c:\windows another which is the one that it should be writing to is C:\Windows\Panther If they do have a recent date can you add those to the collection of logs.

I really wish we could fix the networking issue. What happens when you try uninstalling them? Try it in safe mode without networking.

I am guessing selecting disable fails too?

Did you try any netsh commands to change the adapter properties?

    Are you familiar with xperf?

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/yongrhee/archive/2012/11/23/wpr-xperf-capture-high-cpu-disk-i-o-file-registry-networking-private-bytes-virtual-bytes-paged-pool-nonpaged-pool-and-or-application-slowness.aspx

By watching the time the update fails and looking what is going on around it we may be able to figure it out. I have never used it for that but it is worth a try.

I believe it made it to 75% (or about there) again.  It seemed to go about the same as the other times.

I don't think Teredo is considered legacy? I would have thought it was more of a next generation thing. I don't think it has anything to do with the problem but I'm having trouble pinning down what is causing the problem.  I'd like to uninstall the network drivers but they won't uninstall so I'm trying to get help with that.

Did you get an error while installing the updates and if so what was it? Did you make it to 75% again? I did not see where it signaled to restart and CBS doesn't have any update status? Doing one update at a time may help trying to figure this out.

I wonder if the network device (Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter) that is hidden could be causing the issue. Uninstall so take it out of the equation. If you want to reinstall you go to the action tab in device driver and click add legacy hardware and use the wizard.

My interpretation is that he's basically saying he has no idea what the problem is and doesn't want to spend any more time on it.  Clearly, it's not a helpful post but no surprising either.
