My phone (Lumia 720) is up to date but I cant instal whats app it says that I need to upgrade my phones software what can I do.?

Hello I bought today a new Nokia Lumia 520 with Windows 8.1. I tried to search whatsapp on the marketplace and I can't find it. I tried to download it from the site of whatsapp, and it doesn't work. When I try to download it there appears a message, that the app is not available on my device.
I hope somebody can help me.
