My phone (Lumia 720) is up to date but I cant instal whats app it says that I need to upgrade my phones software what can I do.?

2014-05-21T12:10:34+00:00 I have a Nokia 1520 lumia black when i try to download whatsapp im facing challenges whereby i get the message that my version is not supported for downloading whatsapp. I have a friend who has a lumia 710 but can use whtsapp on his device. My lumia is running on windows 8. Also can you please how i can find whatsapp from windows market place because when i try to search for it i cant find it on the suggested list. Pleas help me as i use whatsapp for my school discussions. Thank you so much in advance.
