Windows 8.1 Pro Secure Build isnt configured correctly build 9600 watermark

I have recently downloaded the Windows 8.1 Pro version and I now have a "Secure Build isnt configured correctly build 9600" watermark on my desktop. I updated from windows 8 pro to 8.1. I tried to configure the bios to enable secure boot I cant find it anywhere on the BIOS screen. I have an ASUS X401a laptop. I also tried to edit the group policy that enable advanced boot options as well but nothing seems to work. Now my question is this fixable or will my laptop stop working after certain amount of time. This is very frustrating as I use this as my computer for school.  Also Windows 8 has been activated since I checked for the key and its fine.

    My notebook is the ASUS N56VZ 4066. This has been  updated with the latest American Megatrends BIOS and doesn't have Secure Boot BIOS settings.

    When purchased, this came with Windows 7 on a mechanical disk, which I replaced with an SSD - It also came with a £15 Windows 8 upgrade offer from Microsoft which I took up and upgraded the OS - after changing a few drivers all was OK.

    After upgrading to 8.1 however I now have the 'Secure Boot is not configured correctly' watermark over the desktop.

    This will NOT be remedied by changing BIOS settings - C'mon Microsoft and fix your problem !

    Alternatively, the watermark can be made to go away by disabling UAC, but then no Store access - I'm thinking now that this is preferable to having the watermark...

    ThereIS a registry key or policy that will disable this. I;m still looking for it, but my expertise lies in networking, not in massaging the Windows registry. I could use some help.

    Not only Asus PC but also Lenovos, Dell computers and HP have this problems. I just read an article in a different message board of a guy who has a lenovo and an asus pc and the asus is fine while Lenovo is not. So how do we fix this?

    Hi Guys,

    I have ASUS N56VM model,  It came with windows 7 and last year I upgraded with windows 8 and it works fine but yesterday night I updated with windows 8.1 and its suck my laptop.

    • Not a single Windows 8 application working. (app store, configuration, skype etc.)
    • Error on the desktop with the following message: “Secure Boot isn't configured correctly”.
    • Charm Bar not working properly. (buttons appear on bottom or top part of screen, never come center right in the screen)
    • Laptop need 10 min to appear desktop after entering password

    Some expert suggesting change "Secure Boot Configuration" in BIOS. but My question is HOW?

    I dont find any configuration called "Secure Boot" in BIOS.

    If you find HOW? Please share steps to change ASUS "Secure Boot Configuration" in BIOS

    On below link I try to find update of asus laptop for windows 8.1 but I dint find any. So I guess either ASUS is not supporting windows 8.1 or laptop don't need any updates for windows 8.1

    My first guess for you is to somehow reinstall your video driver. It took my G55VW close to 3 hours for the 8.1 update to apply, and when it was done I only had to reinstall Vmware Workstation and my WiFi/Bluetooth driver.

    To be honest, with as messed up as your system currently is, though, I'm not sure how to accomplish that. I don't even know if W8.1 has a "safe mode".
