I have recently downloaded the Windows 8.1 Pro version and I now have a "Secure Build isnt configured correctly build 9600" watermark on my desktop. I updated from windows 8 pro to 8.1. I tried to configure the bios to enable secure boot I cant find it anywhere on the BIOS screen. I have an ASUS X401a laptop. I also tried to edit the group policy that enable advanced boot options as well but nothing seems to work. Now my question is this fixable or will my laptop stop working after certain amount of time. This is very frustrating as I use this as my computer for school.  Also Windows 8 has been activated since I checked for the key and its fine.

I have also experienced this message on Lenovo Win 8.1 Pro and Acer TravelMate.  I did not alter the Bios settings in setting up those 38 computers.

I do not wish to use SecureBoot and request that you fix this problem, Microsoft.

    Thanks very much, D&D W

    http://www.maketecheasier.com/differences-between-mbr-and-gpt/

    ASUS k95VM

I found no support for this notebook (Original WIN7) on Asus Website for Win 8.1 ?

Using the hotfix removed the watermark, but some app did not work well.

Asus adivise was te empty hard disk en reinstall Windows on MBR iso GPT.

I bought an SSD and I first configured it to MBR.

Booting from the backup Windows 8 (64bit) disk,  I installed Windows 8 pro with mediacenter & upgraded to Windows 8.1.

    Now all is working perfectly.

Of course you need some skills to do all that yourself.

Forgive me but it isn't just associate with the Asus. I just bought a 1,700.00 HP 17" HD Ultra Book just one month ago. I bought the 8.0 RT Pro with Media center because I use everything need with that application. Now, last night I went in and updated my system to the 8.1 pro with media center. I was able to go in and correct all the drivers through the HP support center but the, "SAFEBOOT ISNT CONFIGURED CORRECLTY" BUILD 9600 is watermarked in the bottom of the screen. Now I went into my BIOS and went to the correct area and noticed that it wouldn't allow me to even highlight and change to disabled to enabled. So, it doesn't effect some but I would almost bet it is effecting ALL computers. You need to do a HOTFIX and correct this problem. HP support changed 8 different setting and drivers along with a new BIOS but it did not correct this. Please advice as I am sitting with about 2,100.00 worth of computer with add on's and need this to be correct. Please get to work as I have 3 very high end Desktops that I have just bought and they as well have the same configuration. Thank you.

I have a Lenovo Helix with genuine Windows 8 Pro, I updated to 8.1 via a prompting from Windows Update and then I got the Secure Boot watermark. I have since enabled secure boot in the BIOS, but still have the Windows 8.1 Pro / Build 9600 watermark.
