I have recently downloaded the Windows 8.1 Pro version and I now have a "Secure Build isnt configured correctly build 9600" watermark on my desktop. I updated from windows 8 pro to 8.1. I tried to configure the bios to enable secure boot I cant find it anywhere on the BIOS screen. I have an ASUS X401a laptop. I also tried to edit the group policy that enable advanced boot options as well but nothing seems to work. Now my question is this fixable or will my laptop stop working after certain amount of time. This is very frustrating as I use this as my computer for school.  Also Windows 8 has been activated since I checked for the key and its fine.

If the Secure Boot Control function is not present in the BIOS, then you can only get rid of the (error) message by converting the diskformat to MBR.

You will have to format the HDD/SSD, so all the data will be wiped

Why would I want to downgrade my hardware in order to upgrade my software? That makes no sense. No thanks, I'm not going to break my system to get rid of a Microsoft generated error - they need to fix it, not me.

For the problem, Microsoft will release the new version of QFE on 11/12 to disable Security Watermark feature. You could use Windows Live Update to solve the issue.

PS. as of now the Windows update didn't fix.  I guess wait till 11/12, according to Asus support
