Windows 9 Beta Testing

Hello.

My name is Logan, and I am a student programmer with a little bit of experience in VB, Java, and C# under my belt so far.

I'm very interested in beta testing Windows 9 (code name "Threshold") just as I beta tested Windows 8 a few years back.

There are rumours circulating that Windows 9 may be release later this year, or early next year, which means that beta testing of Windows 9 should start soon, if not already, and I can't seem to find a single piece of information on how to legally obtain a copy of Windows 9 beta, or even where to look or listen for when it does become available.

If anybody knows anything whatsoever about this subject, please reply to me.

Thanks.

Stop paying attention to rumors.

When MS is ready for Beta testers. they'll announce it at www.microsoft.com and not before they're ready.

I have been using Windows 8 since it came out as well as beta tested it beforehand.  It has a lot of positives like faster start-ups and shut-downs, better security, etc.  The main gripe always seems to center around the lack of the old start menu - there are a few free third party ones that work fine (I am currently using one).  I have not used it on a phone - preferring android (switched from iPhone and will never go back) but I can see the plus of using the same system on each device.

You are so right on at least one front. The Start Menu. I'll get back to that in a moment.

Microsoft DID correct the boot up to the familiar desktop with their upgrades and I'm glad they did. Booting up to the children's coloring book called the 'Metro Screen' insulted to many of us. It was in their best interest to give us back the desktop.

Now, about the Start Menu. You are one of many that promote the idea of using a third party utility to get the Start Menu back. I too have used them but here is my question and my challenge to Microsoft.

Why does any Windows user have to rely on a third party utility?

Why is it so easy for third party utilities to provide us loyal Windows users what YOU, Microsoft could provide but are just too hard headed and arrogant to give us?

Windows, you gave us our familiar Desktop back. Thank you. Now finish the job and give us our Start Menu back. The REAL one. Not the lame excuse hidden in the task bar.

If I wanted my laptop to act like a Smart Phone, I would have bought a smart phone. You can't combine two worlds in to one.

But, That's what Windows is doing and will get away with it.

I post my protest to Windows where ever I can, where every I can find a place to post it.

I did a few RC's in the past with great success and since I'm in the process of building a new machine, I'd try it out on that.  Still gathering components so I can wait for the RC1 release.

Current estimates place the Windows 9 beta version to be available for downloading on September 30, 2014. When the beta version is available we should easily find the links to the download on microsoft.com and countless review sites (simply Bing for the beta).

I am anxious to try the beta to see what new features will be added, and whether the new features will better support my customers' software. I run several different operating systems on different computers so that I can stay up to date on how the latest OS versions handle older software, so for me Windows 9 is both a curiosity as well as an occupational necessity.
