Import of portfolio manager into my watchlist did not import all my stocks

Decided to try out the new MSN so I imported portfolio manager into my watchlist. I have 100s of stocks with over 10 years worth of transactions yet it only imported a small fraction of the total transactions and only for symbols beginning with AA - AN. Since it appeared to import them in alphabetical order, I checked the symbol in Portfolio Manager that was after the last one that was imported and there is nothing wrong with it. 

I checked the transactions page and it states at the top in red "Some transactions in this portfolio are invalid." yet when I review the transactions none are highlighted in red as having a problem and looking at them they all look fine. What is the point of such a error message when there is no indication of what transactions it thinks are invalid so I can try to fix?!

Also see the number columns on the transaction page like price, quantity, split only support manual entry of two decimal points instead of four like the portfolio manager. Four decimal points should be supported for many reasons. For example, many stocks, including most that I buy, can be bought and sold at prices that are four decimals and since stock splits now have to be entered as a decimal one cannot accurately add a split. For example for a 1 for 6 split one should enter .1667 to get the correct number of resulting shares not .16 or .17 Anyway, as a test, I changed all of those with 4 decimals (from the import) to 2 decimals but the "invalid" error did not go away.

Since most of my portfolio is missing it does not matter much but I also noticed the header at the top does not show the total portfolio value, Manage icon, etc...

When I was prompted to import the portfolio manager it showed an example screenshot that contained such.

Thank you for participating in our forum, for reporting the issues with the portfolio migration and providing your feedback. The product team is actively reviewing all this information and working on providing fixes to some of the issues you have encountered.

    I still find it amazing that the folks associated with MyWatchlist and Microsoft Portfolio Manager continue to ignore the problems people are having and the continuing frustrations we are experiencing.  There does not seem to be any interest in protecting their brand name.

    Dear Team DFMPMU(i.e., Disgruntled Former Microsoft Portfolio Manager Users):

    I am pleased to report that I’ve created a Web-based spreadsheet application that contains all of the functionality that I have come to know and love from the now-defunct Microsoft Portfolio Manager (PM).  I used Google Sheets to create the spreadsheet, and I am happy to share it with anyone who is interested.  I’ve posted a template spreadsheet on the Google Sheets site; the URL is below.  Feel free to look it over, copy it, modify it to your taste, etc.  If you have any comments or suggestions, I’d be delighted to hear them.  

    Quick overview:  As you’ll see, my spreadsheet is really more of a “positions manager” than a portfolio manager.  That is, I only enter the price per share, not the total dollar amount of each position.  (There are plenty of other Web-based and software tools available for analyzing portfolios; what I loved about PM was the ability to drill down on each of my holdings, tracking such data as price changes, gain/loss for each position, annualized gain/loss for each position, etc.; and the ability to set targets for high and low prices, which I used as prompts for possible trading activity.) 

    I used conditional formatting on the last two columns of the Positions Manager.  When a stock’s Current Price falls below my “Low Target,” the cell background turns red.  When a stock’s Current Price rises above my “High Target,” the cell background turns green.  (Pretty cool, if I dare say so myself! <grin>)  The spreadsheet includes a column showing Annualized Return – a feature that I couldn't find in most other portfolio managers. 

    To add a new position, I simply type in the ticker symbol and the date/price of the purchase, and voilà, the other data fields populate automatically, using intraday market information retrieved from Google Finance.  Of course, “Low Target” and “High Target” are optional (manually entered) fields; I find these very useful, but you may not need them. 

    The spreadsheet tool also has a tab called “Watchlist,” with some different data fields for tracking stocks/ETFs that I have my eye on but that I haven’t bought yet. 

    Anyway, please help yourself to the Positions Manager tool – I sincerely hope that you find it useful.  And again, if you have comments/suggestions, please post them on these discussion boards – I’m very curious to see what the Hive Mind thinks about this.  Enjoy!
