Just found that Flickr's Web Uploader DOES retain the metadata that you add within Photo Gallery so until the upload feature in Photo Gallery is fixed, I for one will be using this. It's nowhere near as friendly but it does mean that I don't have to type in descriptions and tags for all my photos all over again.
Photo Gallery not working with Flickr
Flickr has changed there API and I'm not able to use Windows Photo Gallery to load to there site anymore. I've talked to flickr and they say it's cuz of there new API and that Windows Photo Gallery has to update before it will work again. Anyone know what to do?

2014-07-01T09:03:43+00:00 Thank-you for the positive-looking response, Vivien. I started a topic on this on the Flickr Help Forum (not knowing why it was happening); I have been using Windows Live Photo Gallery for about 6 years, and have run over 16,000 photos and hundreds of videos through it, uploading to Flickr. How many people can say something has served them so very well for the last 6 years?
It has just been 'a couple days', but I am seeing difficulty in what before was a 'smooth-running operation': Even though Flickr provides and Uploader, I find it now takes 3 times longer. In addition, I've lost use of tracking which photos and videos I've 'published'... I don't have the ability to easily select the size image to upload from WLPG.... My photos/video in WLPG are arranged by tags, yet Flickr requires a different system. If I want to delete the original image once uploaded, Flickr has closed it out, and I must go back and reopen WLPG and delete the image/video.
As I said I have been vocal about this, but it was in the Flickr Help Forum. That is where many Windows Live Photo Gallery / Photo Gallery users have voiced their concerns.... because it was while they were trying to upload to Flickr where they experienced the failure. So that's where they started. I've seen remarks this was publicized, but I see many of us had no idea what was coming. And when it failed, we got a message that we must "authorize" Windows Live. Yet when we followed the process, finally entering the "xxx-xxx-xxx" numbers, the screen would just revert to the original page that we "Must authorize".
The item I started on the Flickr Help Forum about this issue Is "Can no longer upload to Flickr from Windows Live Photo Gallery -- I get "must Authorization" message, but nothing happens when I complete that.". There are many more comments there than you are seeing here. And I'm sure that's because users were not aware of where the contact should be made.
Bottom line. yanking the support for a valuable and very-much-alive tool that many rely on is not good business.
