Help! Just updated to Windows 8.1 through the windows store. Now it will no longer open.

Event Viewer:

Activation of app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store failed with error: The remote procedure call failed. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.

Also, my AV was uninstalled, my right clicking does not work, my VPN broke...

Please run the following in a Command Window to re-register the Store app:

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

Memeo is uninstalled for the Moment.

I got Updates for VCR120 via Windows Updates and about 40 APP-Updates in multiple steps (see System-LOG, Event 17).

So, unfortunatelly resetting store-Proxy in an elevated CMD:

netsh

winhttp

import Proxy source=ie

restart pc

was not the solution.

Meanwhile I got Event-ID 5973 from Source Apps in Application-LOG.

Finally, after working overtime, in the very Moment it seems, this fixed it for me:

a) Setting Registry-Permissions to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drivers as described in the article.

b) Setting File System Rights to C:\Program Files which is C:\Programme (X86) AND ADDITIONALLY D:\Programme (X86) cause I got Windows on SSD (C:) with an additional Program-Folder on HDD (D:)!

Store can be opened now.

Short startmenu (Win+X) is working.

Addendum Nov. 08, 2014:

-Update MS Windows .net Framework!

This is not always included in Automatic Updates and has to be downloaded manually from Microsoft. In the Moment: Version 4.5.2

Welcome back Win 8.1, now go back to work...

    I had the same problem, and tried all the given answers, but nothing worked.

    After reinstalling my computer several times I found out what the problem was...

    I had no problem opening all of the apps, until Windows update updated my WIFI driver.

    After I restored the last system restore point everything worked again.

    I've searched the internet for solutions, The wifi drivers was a common cause for the problems.

    Hi Folks,

    Microsoft's Windows Update, has been rolling out eronious updates from 3rd party vendors such as Ralink for in my case Linksys(was owned by Cisco when I bought my adapter). Not only does this driver, which I hide in WU, not work well with the Adapter, it does screw other things up.

    My best advise is:

    1. go through the rigim-a-roll of getting the Device Manager to allow you to update from a specific file on your disk which is probably seen as an old version.
    2. D/L the actual manufacturer's last and latest driver and install it from disk.
    3. I then allow the latest WU Driver to install, SO I CAN ROLLBACK THE DRIVER, and there is no rollback possible!!! This is very important because Windows Device Manger will do the rollback when you are not looking because it see that it is a later version........... O.o :(

    This is for WiFi but can be applied to any problematic driver. Drivers can screw one up so easily because they tie so deeply into the kernel. One should always us manufacturer's drivers to avoid all sorts of spurious problems, to bad MS forgot this????

    Right now in W 8.1.0 and W 8.1.1 (Update 1) are ahead of some manufactures new driver releases because they are both new in themselves or with the latest updates. I am experiencing a variety of spurious effects/problems which I know are because of drivers not yet out or I have found them out yet.
