well, for instance, recently my IP address was the victim of a coordinated DDOS attack recently, and it was killing my speed. So my ISP wanted meto hook up my laptop directly into the modem temporarily so they could take some kind of speed measurements or something. I normally have my laptop connected to Wi-Fi, so when they asked me to go to the ISP's speedtest site and test it with the way I normally connect
and then test it when it was directly hooked up to the modem. even with my laptop's HDD protection features, I know that moving any thing with a spinning hardrive is a big NO-NO. I also know that moving a laptop when it is in sleep mode is also a big NO-NO. Hiberate saves the windows session to the hard drive and turns off the computer, which mean the hard drive's internals can withstand external movement without incurring possible damage or data loss. since resuming from hibernation is quicker than booting from shutdown, and I did not want to have to bring all the windows (browser pages, etc.) again, hibernating the laptop was ideal.
since I have 8gb's of RAM, I have it set to system managed. My system uses traditional mechanical HDD's rather than not Solid State HDD's.
I believe I did answer the whether I used Disk Cleanup
" I use Disk Cleanup, but I click the "cleanup system files" option before I start selecting any cleanup options. I run it Bi-monthly unless I feel there is a need to do it sooner.
I also run my malwarebytes (free version) scan weekly and a Spybot Search and Destroy scan one a month. I run a full antivirus scan using Microsoft Security Essentials at least twice a month. the quick scan is setup to run every Sunday. for all three of these programs, if I suspect there might be a problem, or if I am trying out a new utility or program, I run them immediately after said utility or program install. this routine has kept me virus, malware, and spyware free for many years. "
My computer performs quite well, it is just on the occasions when I have had a windows session running for more than a week and I then try to shutdown or restart windows that I start seeing problems. If I do what might be considered a normal length windows session, (less than 1 day) then I see no problems. what so ever. "
