RH6M6,

I saw the kb2969339 update come through this morning a good 6 hours before the normal patch Tuesday updates were to be released and thought it was strange. Applied it to the final computer tonight and ran Windows Update. KB2919355 went right through and installed and the rest of the updates are now being installed. Hope this solution works for others.  Thanks.

Jim

    Hello, JW0914

VERY good info, which users willing to devote enough time to understand and apply will likely find

extremely helpful.  I, too use (daily) Nir Sofer's excellent and lightweight portable NirSoft utilities; users wishing to try them may perhaps be pleased with the NirLauncher package for organizing and using the 150+ utilities Mr. Sofer has so graciously provided over the years (many of which he continues to update regularly, on the average about 10-20 a month); this handy software also includes the ability to integrate various other useful tools, such as Microsoft's own package for deploying the Sysinternals tools, SysInternals Suite, as well as Piriform's freeware offerings, Joeware's Free Tools, and utilities from MiTec & NTCore as additional packages that NirLauncher can initiate, while also offering the ability to generate plugin files for BartPE.  As you've mentioned, both the NirSoft and Sysinternals tools were originally written for a previous environment, but their update cycle is still so active (for instance, the latest v. of NirLauncher, 1.18.59, was released May 19; Sysinternals tools are also still regularly updated, e.g. this month's release of the latest v.'s of  AccessChk, Autoruns, ProcDump, PsExec, PsTools , Sigcheck, and VMMap, March's updates of both Process Explorer & Process Monitor, etc.; many of the updates are bug fixes first reported on the quite active Windows Sysinternals Forum) that keeping up can involve more than a little time; a more agile way to deploy the latest NirSoft & SysInternals portable software is offered by KLS Soft (KirySoft)'s Windows System Control Center (WSCC) - which includes a well-organized interface for using the various tools, a "Favorites Folder" for quick access to commonly-used tools, and a handy update feature that makes staying abreast of changes a breeze.

Users wishing to follow your sound advice for running the latest v. of Microsoft Safety Scanner can find

it here: Microsoft Safety Scanner - Free Virus Scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner

BTW, I've never used the GUI version of contig.exe; is there perhaps some older version that's been deprecated, or are you perhaps referring to the Power Defragmenter GUI's based on contig offered by eXcessive Software, Techtites, and others over the years?  And if so, are you aware of whether or not the GUI you've mentioned will work on os' newer than XP?

"The 5 steps under "First"are to fix the component store, however if either of the first two steps presents errors after running either twice, then the end user will need to do an install repair by upgrading to thecurrentversion of windows the end user is running."

So if I am currently running Windows 8.1 (Pro with Media Center) Update 1 with all but the subfile KB2932046 installed, do I need to obtain a DVD or download for Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center? The only DVD I have is Windows 7 Home Premium.

Another person has indicated the possibility of just determining which file(s) are corrupted and replacing those only, which seems simpler, but I would still need a source for the clean files.

Thanks again for all of the effort you have put into hopefully getting this mess fixed.

    Jim

Also since you technically still don't have "2919355" installed, you will still be affected by the "no updates if 2919355 not installed by XXX" right?

Justin, I believe I can answer this part from personal experience. If you have not installed all of the subfiles, MU will continue to tell you that KB2919355 still needs to be installed, although the size of the file will be smaller depending on how many are left to install. It appears that all future security patches depend on whether or not just the subfile KB2919355 is installed. I have not yet got subfile KB2932046 installed yet this past Patch Tuesday I received all patches based on my having the Package KB2919355 installed. For Now, I just don't/can't install the remaining part until a solution is found.

    Jim
