KB2871997 update failure

Has anyone else been unable to install this update? I have tried 5 times without success. I have even tried by downloading directly from the Microsoft web site to no avail. Seems to be no mention of this failure on the M/s site.

    I have the same problem with Win 7 and my "Error Code" is 80070490  with no letters.  Please advise as to the "fix."  I have installed 947821, but cannot install KB2871997.  Thank you.  Please reply to my email.

    Using Windows 7 (windows updates automatic setting).  I recently received the KB2871997 update, May 15th I think, which froze up my programs, but the documents where fine.  I recovered to a previous time in the day and I was able to go about my business until the updates began again once I shut down the computer, which in turn made the computer even worse, couldn't even log in.  Then I rebooted and did the restore manually, turned off the automatic updates.

    I tried:

    System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [May 2014]

    This tool is being offered because an inconsistency was found in the Windows servicing store which may prevent the successful installation of future updates, service packs, and software.

    Error:

    Update is not applicable to your computer.

    If I run the KB2871997 update, it is going to freeze up my computer again.  Please advise.  Thanks.

    KB2871997 failed for me as well. Error code 80070490

    I'm on 2008 R2 Standard.  twice I have had the progress bar go to the end and then the CPU goes to 100% and The Disk is pulsing for about 20 mins,  then installation says "completed" and you must restart. 

    Twice I have had this install within 30 seconds no issues.  Funny thing is there is no type of computer I have an issue with , meaning,  the web server freaked once and then another web server installed no problem.  Then a database server freaked and then another installed no problem. 

    (This is not as bad as the May release KB2926765 which does exactly the same thing, but never installs.  I had to kill it.  (I will post else where.)

    I get the same exact problem. Over the past few days I tried SEVERAL clean boots, and allowing it to install. NEVER does and it keeps trying on its own. I've seen this a few times before with some updates. The only thing that I could do is ignore the update.

    There needs to be more intelligence built into Windows Updates... when it fails twice Microsoft needs to get automatic alerts so they can see if there is a systemic problem - and fix it.

    this is clearly systemic.
