I am trying to update a computer for someone that is Windows 8. I was able to download the update file, then I had to restart the computer for it to update. Upon restarting it, it got to 82% and seems stuck there. I have tried looking around and see that this is a common problem. Are there any solutions to this?

I was experiencing the same problem updating on an Asus laptop. I unplugged the charger and it instantly started going up after being on 82% for an hour. It then continued all the way up to 100% and restarted.
If you have a laptop and are experiencing this problem, just try the above.

To upgrade the operating system to Windows 8.1 without any issues, do the following steps and then check if the installation proceeds.
**Step 1:**Disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse and the keyboard).
**Step 2:**If you are using any third-party antivirus software, you may uninstall it and check if you can upgrade to Windows 8.1.
Note: Even if you disable third party antivirus, Defender will still be running in the computer. This will guard your computer from malware and virus.
**Step 3:**Install all the available updates.
**Step 4:**Install the updated drivers for the hardware.
Step 5: Perform clean boot and then start the upgrade.

I also unplugged my power cord on my HP laptop and I can't believe it worked! It was stuck at 82% for an hour and a half!
I wonder what unplugging it does to jump start something because when I did I just heard a strong "whirr" sound of something starting up.
Mine is stuck at 82 and I've tried unplugging everything still doesn't seem to be working any ideas ?
Ok sO I TRIed tHe Unplugging THe poWeR cORd FrOm my lApTOp ANd I sWEaR IT STaRtEd going Up TO 85%. I then decided to plug the power chord back in just to test and sure enough it stopped and so I unplugged it again and sure enough it finished. I plugged the power cord back again and it started to say "getting devices ready" then went back to "applying. PC 💻 settings." So I have a theory and strictly theoretical, but I think this is a driver problem and I disagree that you should uninstall antivirus software to have the update work. It leaves your computer 💻 open for intrusion and viruses. You would think that Microsoft would have found a fix for this update considering it's been such a big update and a necessary one for a lot of people. I'm definitely making sure to make a backup right away as soon as the update finishes because I'm not going to deal with this for a FOURTH TIME! It's such a hassle and it all started because I did the Windows 10 update and it messed up all my drivers so I did a factory reset and here I am now. Doing my 3rd round of fresh Windows 8 factory reset and finally got 8.1 back after a month of reading tutorials and tips/tricks and none of them worked. /end rant

Microsoft, please get your loyal customers the solutions we clearly need. Even my IT department said they have no idea why unplugging the ac cord worked to make the installation process to get it unstuck!
