Windows 8.1 Install Error 0xC1900101-0x20017

I had this problem upgrading from windows 8 to the preview and was never able to install it. Now I just try with the final and same problem is happening.

Microsoft is really disappointing me. This is ridiculous

    Same error occurred on my PC (Fujitsu S6420) for many time of install, after the reboot BSOD appears and then reboot, and gives the same error code as above.

    Feel very frustrated!

    I was plagued by this same error 0xC1900101-0x20017 - I tried countless times to resolve the issue by trying the many suggested solutions offered on the forums.

    The fix for me was :

    I did a Refresh of my Windows 8 pro during which  I choose custom install instead of the express install option and unticked the option to Install Windows Updates automatically.

    After it successfully refreshed my Windows 8 Pro - I searched for updates and then downloaded only the one update which is required to ensure that the Win 8.1 upgrade is visible in the Store - KB2871389.

    I then made sure there where no remnants of old files left from previous installation attempts by running the disk-clean process (Computer - properties - clean up system files).

    I then just went to Store downloaded a fresh upgrade and it worked perfectly.!!

    Remember that when you choose the Refresh option it gives you a clean operating system - it will keep all your user files etc  but programs such as games and other applications you had previously downloaded need to be re-installed.

    I don't want to reload my system I just want to upgrade it the way MS says it should be done.

    Same here.

    I'm sure refreshing or reinstalling windows would help, but we don't want to do that, neither the less tech-savvy people mom and dad at home.

    I don't want to reload my system I just want to upgrade it the way MS says it should be done.

    I Did a reset of my system and let it wipe the drive which takes some time because download was taking too long.  Updated, uninstalled 3rd party av software, emptied software distribution folder, ran disk cleaner, cleared Windows Store cache files

    Download/installation was smooth as clockwork

    Perform a clean boot and retry Windows 8.1 installation

    Press Win Flag + X

    Type services.msc

    Ensure Bits, Windows Installer and Windows Update are started

    Open Windows Update and install all important and optional updates

    Uninstall 3rd party anti-virus software using vendor's removal toolor disable Windows Defender

    Retry Windows 8.1 installation
