Windows 8.1 install - unable to create ramdisk - 0xc1900101-0x20017

When I attempt to install Windows 8.1 on my machine from the Windows Store, on boot I receive a blue screen. The error message indicates that the system was unable to create a ramdisk and shows error number 0xc1900101.

On reboot, it restores my original installation and provides the following error code: 0xc1900101-0x20017.

In reading some other topics, it seems drivers may need to be updated, but as far as I know I am up-to-date. Is there a way to identify which driver had a failure?

Also, on other threads with this code, I see no mention of a "ramdisk". Is that a unique problem?

Edit: Let me note my system has no ramdisk software installed whatsoever.

    I'm running Q6600 too. Seems like this or the nForce chipset is the issue.

    So, Microsoft; what is your official response to this?

    You have many people with high end, but slightly dated computers, that cannot obtain 8.1 due to shortsightedness and now not supporting something as simple as a chipset driver issue. Please give us some response, you're very quiet knowing these forums are building discontent against the mighty Microsoft. If you are going to rectify this, tell us or you'll have more people giving up their gaming PC's and finally jump 100% onto the console wagon. Another nail in the coffin for the MS Window product...

    I have an Nvidia 790I Ultra MoBo with dual Nvidia 9500GT video cards in Sli But My CPU is a QX 6850 Quad Extreme and 8 Gig ram. And like everyone else I also run Windows 8 without problems.

    Nvidia 7xx mobo and I'm in the same boat. We're screwed. M$ will blame nVidia and we'll be stuck on 8.0 forever....

    I'm running NVidia 680i LT with Q6600 as well... same problems, tried lots from the community with no luck :(.  I guess i'm also staking with 8.0 forever even though on my work machine i'm quite happy with 8.1
